I’m thinking of going to Salzburg for a day during the coming long weekend. I don’t really have a plan yet, only some vague notion about taking a train there, wandering around for a few hours and catching the train back. Is anybody interested in coming along?

Post here or PM.

Hiya She-Ra!

I did this last week so won't be going again in the near future, but make sure you go up to the fort/castle, as the view is amazing (as well as the building obviously). I used a Bayernticket for €27 (up to 5 people), where you can take the slower Regionalbahn (not the faster ICE or EC) which takes around 2 hours. It's also valid for the S-Bahn and some other trains.

I also saw some kind of Mozart festival being advertised, can't remember when it was on though.

Have fun!

I do tours of Salzburg about 2-3 times a week, if you have any specific questions...

Make sure to head to the Augustiner Salzburg, 10x better than the Augustiner Munich (pisswater). Though I can't find it anywhere in town other than the goddamn brewery...

In case you want to know, Mozart's birthplace is Getreidegasse 9, in the old town. I really really recommend visiting the graveyard (and catacombs if you want to pay) in St Peter's Church.

Hmm the unite parade might be coming up, thats always worth going to salzburg for. I went a couple of years ago and was videoing the djs on stage etc, and it was a really hot day, and some people were cooling off in the fountain, dancing in bikinis etc, and all of a sudden one guy rips the bikini top off a nicely breasted young lady, just as I happened to be filming it. So her and her friend are kind of arguing with the dude to give her bikini top back, shes trying rather innefectivly to cover herself up. Her friend is bending over trying to grab the bikini top off the guy and hers gets ripped off too! Eventually the guy throws them down, and one of the girls climbs down to get them, and the other one just keeps dancing. And I got it all on video. Should really put it online sometime. So yeah... I recommend going to salzburg when the unite parade is on.

Thanks everybody for the information.

@Kza – Great, now I can’t decide on both when to go there and whether to wear a bikini or not. Grrr.

If you decide on this weekend and wear a bikini, chances are you'll be saying "Brrr" instead. wink.gif

I'd just recommend going as early as possible (for the Bayern ticket: 9:42 train, track 5 @ the Hbf) and returning well after everything closes...

My normal tour leaves @ 9:42, returns @ 7:15, and that is NOT enough time...certainly not if you do both the castle and Hellbrunn...(obviously the tour is meant for those who are not comfortable doing it on their own and who only have one day, etc.)

All year. It's to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.
