hello everyone
I just moved to a new building, waiting for the metal tag to be made for my name for the ring bell and the mailbox, in the meantime I'm using stickers to be able to received deliveries and mails.
Each blowdy day one of my neighbor is actually removing the sticker with my name on it, from the mailbox and the ring bell.
Now this personn anonymaliously, send me a letter that kind of insult me for having such sticker that ruin the high standard of the buildling.
I need to know if someone know what I should do, is there a legal action to be taken against this personn?
Thx for your help

Stick razor blades under the stickers. After 1 attempt I doubt they will be too keen to remove them again

metal tags can be made in one day. And many buildings (ours included) do not allow anything else. Welcome to Germany.

I've heard about this happening to other people. As DDBug says, "Welcome to Germany". Get the Hausmeister to sort you out with a metal nameplate. In the meantime, keep on putting stickers up. Do not be bullied into not doing this. It is your right to receive mail and visitors.

Leave a note next to the tag saying that your landlord is taking care of getting the metal tag and in the meantime could they please be patient? (smaller writing saying "you big whinging coward" optional)

Get your tags done, but in the meantime tell the offending person that they are in contravention of the European Convention on Human Rights - you have a right to a family life - claim they're fucking that up for you. It's all bollocks, but this being germany they'll probably believe you and leave you alone.

Complain to the landlord and in the meantime, put up a message to the other tenants that anyone interfering with other people's post will be reported to the police.

Hide around the corner with a huge fucking knife, and slit the bastard's throat with it. He won't tamper with anything, ever again.
or get your tags done.

Yes, welcome to Germany. You'll come across this type of petty behaviour from time to time - for some Germans their environment has to be 'just so' and there's no way we can understand why. The only way to deal with it is to confront them head on, tell them to go have it out with the housemeister, then they'll perhaps give you some respect. It's worth finding out who is doing it if you can as they'll probably be guilty of other 'tidying up' actions during your stay.

I've experienced something similar as well. In my previous building someone actually *unscrewed* and removed my metal name plate. I suspect it was the jerk who gave me a sarcastic "Dankeschoen" when I simply parked my bike next to his. It could also have been a random racist jerk (my last name looks conspicuously out of place next to others like "Schmidt").
At my new place someone scratched off the temporary taped on name that I put on. Afterwards I removed the name plate from the previous tenant so that if it got scratched off again (it did) at least there would be a blank space and my friends could figure out by process of elimination which buzzer to ring.
Hard to feel welcome in a coutry where people go out of their way to make foreigners feel like they don't belong!

I hope you kept the letter. Show it to the landlord, ask him to hurry up with the name tags and say that if your neighbour persists
with such conduct you'll go to the police. Good luck!

The first week I moved into my flat I returned home one night to find a swastika poorly scratched across my entire mailbox. I didn't take it personally, just got it replaced *shrug*.
Didn't happen again so suspect it was just random graffiti.

Sheesh - I'm quite happy now with how our case was handled. The Hausmeister just popped a letter in our letter box with a form to apply for a name tag, and asked us to comply. Back then I was outraged that we had to pay so much money (I didn't have a job when I first got here) all for some crappy name tag, just so that there was a uniform look on the doorbell and the letter box. Who cares? But that's the way it is here. At least I was asked nicely!

If it makes you feel any better a colleague and I lived for 3 months in our building with no name tags...until he had visitors ringing each doorbell in the building and shouting his name in the street at 4 am. They got put up very quickly after that, and they are only stickers...

Thx a lot for all the ideas and stories:
I will scan a copy of the letter and send it to my landlady, the Haustmeister knows that the metal tag name should be coming.
I think I 'm going to no enter the game of the cowered in the building and replace every single day the sticker until I have the permanent one.
And we will what will happen...
I will join a lawer insurance thing as well, you never know!!!
cheers to all of you

Find out who is tampering with your mailbox. Then seal his/hers shut with super glue and fill it with unset jelly.

I agree with Jimbo on this. But make sure to leave a sticky note of the body afterwards blaming the crime on one of your neighbors.

could you tell me what the German word for the nametag that's on the doorbell/postbox is?
I need to ask the housemaster to change ours, but don't know what it's called ...
