Got ankle sprained when rushing downstairs yesterday. It was not bad after a short while. I even helped a friend to move a desk and a matress to his place. But from this morning it hurts badly as if it were newly sprained. Anyone knows what kind of clinics I shall go to fix the thing? Thanks in advance. unsure.gif

Well, I have sprained my ankle twice in my life. The first time I went to the emergency room because I was unable to walk on it at all and though it might be broken - needed xrays and crutches. The second time was not so bad, if you can walk on it, then it is probably just a minor sprain.

I personally would go to my regular doctor first and see what he/she says (if you can walk on it). For me, it was to stay off the feet as much as possible - if you have crutches, use them because it will heal faster and better and the pain/injury will not linger for weeks or months. Ice it for 20 minutes at a time for the first 48 hours, take an anti-inflammatory (if you have some) to reduce the swelling, which reduces the pain and increases the blood flow to the area which aids healing. Wrap it up in an ace bandage if you do have to walk somewhere (not too tight, enough to give you some support so you don't roll it again).

Keep it elevated whenever possible.

If it is bad enought to go to the Docs, i wouldn't bother with a GP, especially if you are privately insured. Go straight to an orthopaedic doctor. there are plenty around but i can recommend one if you want.

strawberry ...Sportmedizin at Wolfart Klinik ..there's already a thread on this relating to ACLs but the doctors are excellent and will sort your ankle out ! Also speak english if your german isn't that great..

The easy solution for this one is RICE

which means Rest Ice Compression and Elevation, basically as previuosly stated try and keep your feet up as much as possible and ensure the foot is higher than your waist or chest if you can thus helping to avoid further inflammation. A bag of frozen peas wrapped in kitchen roll both under and above will help bring any swelling down quickly, leave on for about 30 minutes. Get a prssure bandage fitted at the pharmacy like Tubigrip or such like and that should be it. Crutches help but will make your posture bad if not used properly.

Good luck and tune in next week for another Doctor Jimi classic!!! blink.gif

Schafgabenkraut can also be used to reduce swelling, boil it in water, let it cool down and then apply to the swollen area and wrap it in bandages.

Hi, acockreland2balls and the other nice people. Thank you for your recommendation.

Would you please tell me where you found the clinic online? Do you have the other links of such clinics? Last week I have been busy in moving and cleaning up the old room and therefore had no time for the ankle. But it keeps on reminding me that it has problems. Most of the foot and ankle are black and blue now. This morning I called the clinic and was told that they are only available on the next Monday. blink.gif

I think your ankle needs URGENT attention!

Personally, I'd either wait for the Monday appointment or go down there and ask to wait. Their last appointment at lunchtime is about 1:30pm at the Nymphenburgerstr. clinic so going or phoning around that time should get you in. They will do stand-bys because I got one two weeks ago.
These gents did my ACL fix and I'm more than happy (actually my physio is upstairs and I have that twice a week).
There are other places (e.g. Alpha Klinik et al), but if you can get in with Sportsmedizin at Wolfart, do so.

I agree with Katrina. Go to the clinic and 'camp out' until they agree to see you. If it is as colourful as you describe and you explain you have not seen anyone at all, I am sure they will be interested enough to see you today. Good Luck and take a book!

Hi nice people,

I have the troublesome thing roughly fixed at Notaufnahme Klinikum Grosshadern...the bone is nearly broken. I do appreciate your advice. rolleyes.gif

Anyone here had experiences with the Doc. Goebel Weinstr. 3. ? (Just to avoid meeting a doc similar to my first dentist)

I found this clinic in this link and luckily got an appointment tomorrow. Many thanks in advance.
