Just got my first monthly pay slip through this morning but I´m having a bit of trouble making sense of it all blink.gif . Could someone please enlighten me as to what the following abbreviated financial terminology is all about? (note: I already babelfished the full words in the following but have included them to give context)

- lfd. SoliZuschl
- RV-AN-Anteil, lfd. Entgelt
- AV-AN-Anteil, lfd. Entgelt
- AG-Zuschuss KV
- AG-Zuschuss PV
- Abgef. Beitrag freiw. KV
- Abgef. Beitrag freiw. PV
- Stfr Bez
- Stfr DBA
- Stfr ATE

Thanks alot.

- laufender Solidaritätszuschlag *current sum of supplementary tax (to finance the reunification)
- Rentenversicherung-Arbeitnehmeranteil, laufendes Entgelt *pension dues, employee's share, current sum
- Arbeitslosenversicherung-Arbeitnehmeranteil, laufendes Entgelt *unemployment dues, employee's share, current sum
- Arbeitgeberzuschuss Krankenversicherung *employer's grant towards health insurance
- Arbeitgeberzuschuss Pflegeversicherung *employer's grant towards nursing care insurance
- Abgeführter Beitrag freiwillige Krankenversicherung *deducted and forwarded dues for voluntary health insurance
- Abgeführter Beitrag freiwillige Pflegeversicherung *deducted and forwarded dues for voluntary nursing care insurance
- Steuerfreie Bezüge *non-taxable income
- Steuerfrei [gemäss] DBA (Doppelbesteuerungsabkommen) *non-taxable income according to Double Taxation Agreement
- Steuerfrei [gemäss] ATE (Auslandstätigkeitserlass) *non-taxable income according to Edict on Employment Abroad

That should give you an idea, I don't guarantee for precise translation of the termini technici.

Rentenversicherung, Krankenversicherung, Arbeitslosenversicherung and Pflegeversicherung are mandatory, half of the dues being paid by employer and employee each; however, you may be exempt if your monthly salary is above a certain amount or you can choose voluntary health and/or nursing care insurance. The employer can pay a certain amount as a grant towards voluntary Krankenversicherung and Pflegeversicherung. As a foreigner working abroad you may be subject to double taxation or fall under the above Edict (if your home country does not have a Double Taxation Agreement with Germany) - depending on how much you earn.

If anyone who knows more about the system than I do finds any major mistakes in the above explanation, fell free to correct them.

Steuer-Brutto --> total income before taxes and social security that is relevant for tax-calculation
Lohnsteuer --> income tax
Kirchensteuer --> church tax (8% of the tax amount)
SolZ --> Solidaritätszuschlag --> additional tax to support east Germany (10% of tax amount)
Steuerfreie Bezuge --> tax free income
SV-Brutto --> Sozialversicherungs Brutto --> total income relevant for the calculation of social security amount
RV-Beitrag --> Rentenversicherungsbeitrag --> pension payments --> 19,9% of SV-Brutto split in half between employer and employee
KV-Beitrag --> Krankenversicherungsbeitrag --> health insurance costs --> depending on your insurance --> if publically insured around 13,8% of SV-Brutto split in half between employer and employee
PV-Beitrag --> Pflegeversicherungsbeitrag --> nursing care insurance --> 2,5% of SV-Brutto split in half between employer and employee
KV-Beitrag --> see above probably for employer
