Well, it's that time of the year. On Saturday, May 27th, Munich will host 400 concerts in one night. From electronica to belly dancing, I'm sure there is something for almost every taste.

The tickets cost 15 Euros. For those of you who are not familiar with the festival, this ticket gives you access to all of the concerts AND transport (shuttle bus between venues).

For more information (only in German, unfortunately) click here.

If you don't trust your level of German, you can jump directly to this list to see who's playing where. (Sorted by musical genre)

It's too late to order tickets online now but all venues have tickets on the door.

What is the experience of people who have been to this?

I've heard that all the venues get so crammed that if you manage to get a seat in one, you just stay there. Kind of like Oktoberfest, only you didn't pay 15 euro to get in the door of the tent there.

True or an exaggeration?

I've never actually been although someone did say to me that when they've been before you tend to get "rooted" at one place and don't move. There's a group of us going and is being organised by women so no doubt they have a masterplan ....

You definitely need to work out some sort of a vague plan as to which bands you actually want to see. Recommend using your bicycle as well, sometimes the shuttle buses are as jammed as the gigs. It's good crack though.

I went last year. I visited a guitar-maker's workshop in Haidhausen and a few bars in Schwabing, and all were very crowded. But they were all quite small places, not really geared to handling large crowds. As for staying put in one place, well the weather last year - torrential rain - was another good reason for not walking around outdoors much.
There's a wide variety of acts and no doubt some will be much better than others, regardless of genre. One band that I've seen live, and thought they were good, is the Brazilian combo called Bem Brasil - they'll be playing at the Cafe Unopiu, Lindwurmstr. 79, page 41 in the "Lange Nacht" programme booklet.

TRUE! Venues and busses are crammed as if there was tomorrow! Only thing you can do (as already stated), is do it by bike and choose small sites you normally wouldn't go to or the program sounds weird. Only way this night is enjoyable.
