The gigantic five storied glass and steel framed Lehrter Bahnhof will be opened soon in Berlin.

Cost of construction: 700 million euros, took ten years to be completed.

Will have 1100 trains carrying around 30,000 passengers per day.

Now that sounds impressive. rolleyes.gif

It's today, isn't it. Looks very impressive. Lots of glass. Imaginatively called 'Hauptbahnhof' smile.gif

Well for 24 hours at least it will probably be the only building in Berlin that isn't covered in graffiti.

Man stabs 26 after opening of Berlin train station

QUOTE
A knife-wielding German teenager attacked people leaving a gala ceremony to dedicate Berlin's new central rail station shortly before midnight on Friday, injuring 26 before being arrested, police said.

More details: Germany station stabbings - Yahoo! News

I *heard* that one of the stabbing victims is allegedly HIV positive, thus causing exposure concerns for the other victims. Haven't seen it in writing though.

FYI: HIV exposure confirmed
QUOTE
Because one victim had the deadly HIV virus that causes AIDS, which can be spread via blood, police urged all those injured and released, as well as rescue workers who assisted the wounded, to report to authorities for urgent blood tests.

I wonder if it was a German teen or rather a Turkish teen.. I find it highly uncharacteristic of a German teen from a 'good' family.. and that he was from Neuköln.

A friend of a friend was a stabbing victim, which brings it too close to home for me.. very disturbing.
