We will be moving to the Munich area from Michigan in 2 months. I was wondering what kinds of stores do you have like
Target. Are there any bulk items stores like Sams Club or Costco? I know this sounds silly but I have 4 yes 4 children and I need these store or something Similiar.
Help me please

No, there are no Target stores in Germany.
There are two
Wal-Marts in Munich, though. One in
Euroindustrie Park, and one at the Machtlfingerstrasse
U-Bahn station.
There is also
V-Markt in Balanstrasse,
Haidhausen neighborhood.
You might get some more advice if you mention what you need to buy in these stores. Then, people will be happy to point you in an appropriate direction.

there is a wal-mart in the europaindustriepark & has clothes and groceries. real is a huge grocery store, but i think they only have food (someone will correct me if i am wrong). they do have woolworth's.
what you lookin' for in particular?
EDIT: oh, yes that's it V-markt. has groceries and cheap clothing items. but no, alas, no target.

I wanted something familiar until I get used to the surroundings. I will purchase clothes for my children here so they should be all set for a while. I can only say about 5 things in German, so I'm a little nervous about finding things...any thing...

@Elfenstar - Real up here in NRW sells other stuff like bicycles, DVD players, clothing, household appliances etc in addition to regular groceries - infact the store in Essen is way better than the Walmart store they have up here in terms of range. Don't know about what they sell in Munich though (til now I wasn't even aware there was a real in Munich!)

i would go to H&M. they have lovely children's clothes for about the price you would find at target. i don't feel guilty buying gifts for my nephew or friends kids there. and the sizes are usually listed in us-uk-eur-italy, etc. numbers so you can find what you need. most of the peeps who work at H&M are young too, so they have some English.
@ nixe -- yeah, the real is also in the
euroindustriepark, pretty close to wal-mart.

Shit! Talk about tunnel vision. I used to live near the
euroindustriepark but only ever made it as far as Walmart ... and McDonalds.

hmm, the wal-mart here isn't too far off of the wal-marts in Minnesota...
except that there aren't as many mexicans, of course...
and yes, thank god for the wal-mart in munich

What a strange statement.
I find the walmarts different here - no where near as much fun to go to as the ones in my home state
exept there aren't as many (insert racial minority in Germany) at the ones at home
Thank god for the shopping zone from the
hauptbahnhof to
Isartor in Munich - much better selection.

From Seefeld? One heck of a commute.
I love walmart in the states, but I just don't see the point here.
Down town has everything from woolworth and h&m to halhuber and prada and (what's the name of that great kitchen store near viktualienmarket). A variety of price and quality ranges in easy walking distance - except for saturdays during Oktoberfest when 1860 plays bayern. Then I go to
Karstadt am
Nordbad.

If I were just going downtown, that'd be simple from Seefeld...
No, no...I usually go on to Fuessen or Salzburg, too. I spend something like 6 hours on the train 3-4 days a week...but the other 3-4 days it's still 1 1/2 hours on the S-bahn.
You obviously have more money than me, that's all I'm saying.

I seriously doubt it!! Why do you think I know where Woolworth and H&M are? Much better value for your money than the German Walmart.
Maybe you should spend less money on train rides

Go to Kick. That is where you get cheapo clothes similar to Kmart. For Target like clothes it is C&A or H&M.

For the record, for cheap clothing, I'd go to C&A, but that's not the type of thing I'd go anywhere NEAR at wally world.

The closest thing you'll find to Costco is Metro, but you have to be a business owner to get a card. I used to borrow the card from the institute where I worked. There are really good prices on some items (like chicken breasts), but others are no better than what you'd find at
Aldi, Penny or
Lidl or sometimes not even as good.

Well if you're going to be living in Allershausen, (there's an
S in the middle

) and you need anything let me know and I'll try to help.

we have seen some rental houses advertised in Allershausen, would be interested in your thoughts on the area for a family with two small children.

I don't know why people forgot to mention REAL...it's also in industry park walking distance from Walmart.
All the following stores have what we can call clothes section:
WALMART
REAL
V-MARKT
D&M
Aldi and Penny occasionly makes offers of selected items
However you are very limited in the collection, you may pick one or two good items not more
For low cost collections
WOOLWORTH
TAKKO
For medium cost collections
C&A
H&M
for med to high
Gelleria
KaufhofAnd there are lots of other independent shops
but my own suggestion:
for handy and fast purchase head to C&A or H&M...
but to find real nice clothes with good price you have to make a quick scan urself on the shops coz not all goods are deserving their cost
