I am coming to Munich from Berkeley, California, for the month of July. I am looking for a painting or drawing class for a week or so. Any suggestions on where to find such a class??

Thanks,
Gwyn

Gwen, If you find one, let me know, I am looking for one, as well.

I remember noticing leaflets for various art courses when I was browsing around Schachinger's some time ago. They seemed to be a mix of once-a-week courses in Munich and special painting courses lasting a week, or over a weekend, sometimes abroad (e.g. Italy). Don't know anyone who's done such a course though, so I can't make any recommendations.

Hello Ladies,

this will be very difficult, since this is the month when a lot of people are taking holidays and I think your only chance are the private atteliers, which are quiet expensive. Unfortunately I have seen so far only classes in June. But you can check out the Münchener Volkshochschule, which is providing a lot of art classes. Mostly they are for a longer periode of time - I have seen some classes that start in March and end in July- but sometimes they offer weekend courses.

Do you speak german? Here you can check out the sites yourself:

I hope this helps.

One special "Hi" to Berkeley! I lived for 1 year in Oakland, on Clarendon Crescent and have been many times to Berkley. Is Josh's place still alive?

Cheers,

The MVHS MVHSdo a vast array of painting and drawing courses, I've done several of the weekend ones and they're really well done. I had a quick look to see what was still available:
EW6475: is a weekend course on 23/24 of July, it takes place outdoors, looks pretty good.
then they have a whole summer attelier which takes place from july to september:

This is quite obvious but I will post it anyway. If you cannot find a drawing class, grab a pencil(without eraser), sketchbook, and a sharpener. Then just draw everyday for 15 min to a hour . Within thirty days of doing this daily exercise you will yourself a better artist. The way you see light, shape, color etc etc...plus drawing to me is the gateway to painting. When I feel reall frustrated with my painting or photography..I draw the subject. It is a great stress release and a better answer to the dilemma I am facing on
on the subject. Since you will be in Munich, you will so many things to draw. If you find the opportunity to visit the one of the smaller surrounding towns (Freising. Regensburg to name two) take it.

Also F.Y.I.
If you can buy your sketch pad , brushes, pencils, and watercolor paper( if you use this )with you from the states. It will much cheaper there believe it or not. I found out the hard way and left 80% of my supplies in Portland thinking they would be inexpensive
in Europe since most were made here(brushes in Germany, paper from France and Italy). Being in California you will find all the above much cheaper there or if not there is Danial Smith online(oh how I miss Daniel Smiths)

Good luck in finding your class. PM if you need any help I will see what I can do.

I have learned that what I have not drawn I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle

Gwynn and Gaia,

My Afternoon Oil Painting class will be meeting through July (by popular demand). The classroom is in downtown Munich, next to the English Garden. We will be combining studio painting with plein air painting (weather permitting), and a day workshop in Garmisch.

Class meets once a week -- Wednesdays, 1 to 3:30 (or later for those who don't want to stop!). There may be a possibility of an evening class as well, also on Wednesday.

Please e-mail me at marypaints@gmail.com soon if you are interested. I take very few students and the class is almost full.

Best,
Mary
P.S. Class is in English, and supplies are not provided at this time, but I can order them if I have enough advance notice.

Does anyone know where I could do similar? I'm interested in doing figure drawing in Munich. Not sure how to say that in German.
