Saturday 17th July 2004 -
Andechs II - The Revenge
Leaving
Hauptbahnhof early, get to Andechs. Drink beer, eat pork, and enjoy the sun (hopefully).
If you didnt travel last time, there's evidence of the TT carnage at
Keydeck's gallery or you can have a look at the
Andechs website for info too.

P.S. anyone else volunteering to lead us up the hill this time?

what time do you plan to come and go? I will be on holiday until that day in Austria, maybe we can pop in on the way back, I love it there!

Jun 7 2004, 12:35 pm
I reckon we will be there most of the day, arriving around 11am, and leaving around 1700.

Sorry, can't go that night.

I wish I could re-live the moments again with everyone and enjoy the sites and the beer but perhaps next time. If you need a tour guide up the mountain, just call me and describe the rocks and trees and I can tell you which way to go.
Bit o' history: chicken^tonight almost saw his first squirrel on our climb up last time. He heard it, but it ran too fast.
Perhaps next time CT.

The booking page is available now
hereSorry, I spoke to a few TTers at GM's a while back and this is the date that appeared, and I know a few TTers dont know what they are doing so early in advance, but if we want a chance of a reservation then we need to book early!

I've stuck mine & Mel's name down, though not 100% sure if we will be able to make it or not.

If we do go, do we do the loooong 5Km walk like we did last time

, or the shorter 3Km walk?

Hi,
I've got some Aussie chums coming this Saturday and was thinking of hitting
Andechs too... is it really nescessary to book so much in advance?
Cheers,
Pelski.

@pelski
no, don't worry. But we usually are a good crowd. We were about 30-40 last time, so then it gets difficult.

if we dont book then we got to get there very early!
Even if we got there mega early and found a table, the 'Polizei' table was booked from 2pm onwards, so it would be very likely that they would just move us to make way for a booking.

Count me in.
Note the U Bahn opening party is that evening too, if we have the inclination ie if anyone is still capable.

Jul 7 2004, 4:56 pm
Absolutely wanna come but can't manage even a 300-m walk. Might be Roger's here that weekend though; then we could drive there. Or I could take the bus with the other lazies.

I think its on, but we just risk now having tables
So, whose thinking of going? and badger, I am happy to get on the bus too...

I'd be quite keen to go - looks like one of those must-do's when you're in Munich!
I will be there. Dont mind walking or taking the bus, but im sure we could all do with the exercise and fresh mountain air.
@Pootle: Did you make a booking in the end?
@SteveNZ: Another kiwi eh? Well well well...

@ SteveNZ it is TOTALLY something you have to do here, the view across the lake and mountains is fab, the atmosphere is lovely, the food and beer (brewed by monks) is "spitzenmäßig"

Is it too late to jump on board this event?
So, if one could make it, is there a particular place at the main station that everyone meets...or should I just listen for a large group of English speaking people? Time?
JoolyBooly
Jul 8 2004, 4:32 pm
no, it's not too late. They're meeting at 10am on the 17th at central station, PM Pootle for his mobile to make sure you find them

Like most Southerners I can afford a car (essentially a pit-pony with wheels, a CD player and air-con). However, if you wanna race me up that hill on foot Beery, you got yourself a race.

I'm either daft or hungover (or both), but I can't get my name on the list (wrong pword?!)
Count me in plus 1 guest, plus of course Petal who has no internet access...

Hmmm , a 5 km hike through the mountains? Squirrels?
Eh... i can do that in my backyard
3 Lions
Jul 9 2004, 9:28 am
It's either 5km or 3km, it depends which path you take up the hill. Last time we did the 5km walk, which is a nice walk, but I will go with what the majority want to do.

Jul 9 2004, 11:08 am
OK, so ventured out to internet cafe. As JoolyBooly said, count me in. A 3km walk sounds ample to me!

Jul 12 2004, 8:23 am
OK... wait... hold EVERYTHING!!!
Now I was obviously in a delirious state when I said that I'd be there at 10am, because as everyone knows (well, those "down under" types), the Mighty All Blacks take on Australia this Sat 17th, game starts 9.35am Munich time.
Unfortunately my patriotism is going to have to take over but I would still be keen to come out to
Andechs, so pootle can I get your mobile and directions?? ie. which train to take to where? Game will be over by 11.30 (would you like the result?) and will be out there after that.
PS. Any Aussies/Kiwis - GM's at 9.35am this Sat? might post a separate thread...
Shit noone told me. Oh well, it should be possible to do both. Watching the rugger THEN going to
Andechs sounds like good plan to me too. We will still get in a good arvo of fresh mountain air. I know the way Steve... See you at GMs.

@SteveNZ
These are the directions I put on the old thread, just in case people were late or couldnt make the orginal time. Hope they are useful.
Oh, one point, the S5 is running as normal now(I think), so we should be ok to go straight from hauptbanhof

But I recommend

Just for the info, I have a Gruene Karte, which allows me to take a person for free with me on all the u- and s-bahns during the weekends, regardless how many rings. This is only valid if you have a weekly or monthly IsarCard (even if it's only for 2 rings).
I can only take ONE person for free...PM me when you're interested.

Ok

Meet at haupbahnhof at 10am
Theres an s5 at 1020, which we should aim to be on.
Same meeting place as last time? The space in the main hall near the ticket machines?
I will be wearing a red rugby shirt again and even maybe some lederhosen...

Should get back about 8pm.
So which route are we taking up the hill then? Personally I think we should take the long one again, its going to be a nice day, it was a nice walk last time, and that walk makes the 1st beer worth the wait?

Jul 14 2004, 3:36 pm
3 Lions - are you insane? i think we should take the bus personally.
