There is a photo/documentary type exhibition in the Pinakothek de Moderne at the moment titled "Ort und Erinnerung - Sites of National Socialist Past in Munich". I went on Sunday for a quick look and it's very impressive. There are lots of images of life for normal Bavarians in the run up to the war, and a huge amount of information in the accompanying text (all German). Loden-frey making uniforms, the BMW factory, the plans for the new
Hauptbahnhof, the synagogue before and after destruction, all sorts. There is also archive video footage of various events, including some very harrowing scenes from Dachau.
Attached to the exhibit is a gallery of well over a hundred locations in Munich which still show some relics of the past, arranged by district. The topic's been discussed on TT before, but there are far more locations illustrated in the gallery.
It's running until 28.05.2006 on the ground floor of the Pinakothek de Moderne, and details are available
here. If you want to save some cash head over on a Sunday when entry is only a euro. The catalogue for the exhibit is a bit steep at 24E, but contains all the photos, maps and text
