Pforzheim A8 traffic jam

Having driven into traffic jams at Pforzheim on previous journeys, I wonder if there are still hold ups, Its a route / journey I have taken many times but March & April I got held up in a long tail back on the A8, I was driving back the other way last weekend and the jam going towards Munich from Karlruhe went on for miles, I was relieved to be going in the other direction, does anyone have any idea what the delay is and what the time scale is, I will be driving through again in July and will plan an alternative route if there is still a problem.

It's been there forever. The radio people try to tell you its a road works but its not really, its a constant battle thats been going on since the dark ages between people trying to get out of the shittiest town in the world (pforzhiem) and the green clad tax collectors trying to keep them in.

It's not been there forever. It wasn't there 20 years ago but it most definitely was still there 20 days ago.

And if wikipedia is anything to go by it will be there for at least another couple of years:


I did know that it was one of the oldest stretches of Autobahn in Germany (pre-war and all) making it one of the oldest in the world, but I didn't know that Hitler himself dug the first sod at Unterhaching (see article and excuse my French).

Its a pain, as most of the traffic come off at Heimsheim and travel through Weil der Stadt. About time they got their skates on and finished it pdq !!
