I've seen a few adverts for this new Mercedes Benz museum opening up on 20th May 2006 (mostly during the movie trailers) and thought you Stuttgartians might want to know about it.

The new museum designed by Dutchman Prof. Ben van Berkel is in the form of a double helix and will be officially declared open by Angela Merkel on 19th May. It is 16,500 m2 large and has 160 cars on show.
As of 20th May, the general public can visit the museum, Tuesdays to Sundays and on bank holidays from 9am to 6pm, closed on Mondays.

The tickets cost EUR 8, children up to the age of 14 having free entry.

The museum (first opened in 1923) is being relocated to:

Mercedesstraße 137 , Stuttgart , 70327 , Germany
Phone +49 711 17 2 25 78 ,
Fax +49 711 17 5 11 73

I popped in on the weekend of the England-Ecuador match.
Well worth a look, especially if you're out Cannstatt way anway. There's a small bit underneath that you don't have to pay for.
There are 3 lifts up the centre so you start from the top and work your way down one of the slopey bits, then get another lift to the top etc. One visit might not be enough.

I have organised a Stag weekend in August for 6 people to Stuttgart and Munich. The groom is a big Mercedes fan so I want to tour the museum and factory.

I have done some research and see the Museum is €8 entry, but it says the factory tour is by appointment. Does anyone know how long the factory tour takes and if they charge for it?

Also, could anyone recommend a bar/pub near the Hauptbahnhof? Thanks in advance!

Not sure how long on the factory tour but make sure you book ahead of time! If its anything like the BMW factory tour its sold out for 6 months at a time!

The Schlossbiergarten is nice if you like that sort of thing. From Hbf, stay on the U-bahn level, go towards exit to konigstrasse exit but at the end head away from konigsrasse, walk about 5 minutes into the park and follow the signs.

LOL, don't worry we aren't staying for long! It was much cheaper to fly to Stuttgart and then get the train to Munich! The groom is a Mercedes fan so visiting that was a bonus really. I wanted a decent pub/bar that we could visit while waiting for the train you see!

Tour of the motor factory in Untertürkheim. That's next to the museum.

Tu-Fr 13:45 tour in English
No advance booking. You can obtain tickets (for free) for a tour on the same day at the museum counter.
Number of participants is limited to 30 (which is not much considering the number of museum visitors).

Tour of the car plant in Sindelfingen.
That's closer to the airport than to the museum / Untertürkheim plant.

You have to reserve at least 4 weeks in advance.
