One of my parishioners needs help. She's looking for a mobile phoned combined with a mp3 player which works well enough to replace an iPod. Sony-Ericsson w900i looks the business but very pricey. She doesn't need a camera function. Any assistance would be a God send.

All I can say is, I have the Sony-Ericsson W810i (Like the W900i but like a normal phone without the swiveling front) and I am THOROUGLY pleased with it.

OK so it cost a lot of money but I looked at it as me buying an mp3 player so the cost was not so outrageous. Plus now I dont have to carry a phone as well as an mp3 player.

I can only reccomend that choice.

I have basically the same phone (K750i), the software on the phone just differs a little and its less suited to listening to music but you can none the less.

Anyway, its a really good phone, and the camera on it is actually good. The only thing that concerns me about the W810i is that there is no cover for the lens of the phone.

Even so, I would also recommend it.

My K750i is in use as phone/mp3player, but the bloody camera keeps breakin down, had it fixed two times and can't be bothered anymore. If it wasn't for that, I'ld say perfect phone!

I've got an LG VX8100 that I'm quite happy with. Mind you I haven't tried the mp3 function yet, because I've been too lazy to get a mini SD card for it. It would be worth checking out, though (if it's available there, that is). I'm not sure how long the battery would last when playing mp3s, but you can always get an extended battery.

One point to add about the w810i, it comes with a 512mb memory card as default. So it is instantly more usable as a full-on mp3 player than the ones that come with 32 or 64 etc mb. Also the headphones supplied are the in-ear type which are so good I have no desire to replace with an alternative.

It will take up to a 4GB card though which is great. I am awaiting delivery of my 2GB card smile.gif

About the camera not being covered, yeah that bugged me too. Not overly bothered about it though as I primarily bought it for its mp3 functionality. Also with the kind of pics you end up taking with a camera phone, a tiny amount of dust on the lens is not going to make a huge difference to the result. Mine still takes great pics with a filthy lens!

edit: I don't work for sony smile.gif

I have a W800. Camera lens is covered but too easy to open when you pop in your jeans etc.

But has enough tunes so when stuck somewhere you can listen to something, plus the radio. Happy with it.
