Hi Folks,

After a long dreary winter, and lots of rainy days, the Munich Straßenfeste (Street Festivals) are back again!!!

First to kick things off is Klenzefest, on 25th May (Thursday) - Himmelfahrt public holiday.
See here for this year's program.

Best way to get there is take the U-bahn to Fraunhoferstr. and take the exit towards Gärtnerplatz, then you're right in the middle of it all. Or start from Viktualienmarkt (near to Marienplatz), cross Fraunstr and start following Klenzestr.

This year will be the Festival's 10-year anniversary, looks like lots of parties going on. Last year's Klenzefest was lots of fun, and the TTers found lots of small parties in the innenhofs, so look out for those.

Weather forecast is a bit dodgy, but it still should be lots of fun to walk down the street. Parties last till 23:00 so you have plenty of time!

Topsy, nice meeting you on the subway. Hope you had a good teach! Pity you were in such a hurry. We could have had a coffee or summink. Are you always in a hurry?
Might see you at that fest you're so proud of - begorrah.

Edit: This should have been a PM but I'd posted before I copped on.

Thanks for posting this - a friend will be staying from out of town (well, country) and this is something to do on the Thursday!

My bad, Topsy. Still it's one of the earliest. Three cheers to sunshine, beer and street festivals! :-)

Cheers, mate. cool.gif

The Haderner Dorffest (Ubahn Klinikum Grosshadern) is on this week as well. Rumour has it that a certain oompah band will be playing there on Thursday. biggrin.gif

The Klenze Strasse is JAMMERS for this and tbh I find it too claustrophobic.
If you need to get from one end to the other it's quicker to make a detour via Reichenbachstrasse.

Anyone going to this on Thursday? Would like to stop by and meet up with people who are also planning on making an appearance.
pootle
Bugger decisions, Haderner Dorffest or Klenzestr...
MonksTown
Surely trick is Hadener Dorffest first then Klenzestrasse?

Though that can get messy...

@Pootle

You should hire a shuttle limo.

May be a stupid question, but I still can't get all these damn German holidays straight...Will everything be shut down on Thursday? Groceries, shopping...etc?
UrbanAngel
@ Drago - yes, it's a bank holiday, so shops and supermarkets are closed (with the usual exceptions). Do a search for this and you can read past discussions on it.

Anyone was there today? It's still going on, music blasting and lots of people dancing away, even some couples getting it on right in the middle of the street (fully clothed).

Why can't they have this every month... tongue.gif
UrbanAngel
Yeah I went, took about 20 mins to walk through the few metres which were jam-packed with people and stalls and some random martial artists. Couldn't even see the show but it looked like jitsu or judo.
Why8
UA: you didn't go to Koenigsee??

This should be cross-linked to the PDA thread. wink.gif

Today is Gärtnerplatzfest and I believe is if I read the signs correctly Johannisplatzfest (at Maxweber platz)

Go along and watch the capoeira if you've never seen it before!
