I have just passed my test to play golf in Germany which I was required to do simply because I never required a handicap to play at any club in Ireland. I read on this thread that there is an
English Golf Society which organises golf outings at reduced green fees and as long as you do not demolish the course you do not need a handicap.
If there was enough numbers we could set up a Toytown Golf Society or possibly an Arc golf society if Hazza was willing to lay on a few crates of beer for the bus journey there and back. We could get reduced green fees if the numbers were big enough and we ate at the golf course we were attending. Five card stud and poker could be optional activities en route and off course there would be prizes for the best scores, closest to the pin and longest drives (even wayward ones like Keydeck

). Realistically we need between twenty and thirty people to make this thing a goer and I would be happy to organise it even with my limited German. I think once a month would suffice which means we should be able to organise five days between now and October.
Anyone who is interested pm me and we will try and get this thing off the ground. If there are enough people interested to make it viable then I will post it up in events with dates, times, cost and locations. Hoping to hear from you all soon.

That sounds good, drive the buggy take a wedge and a putter and just drop the ball 100 yds out on each hole

I am that bad that I once hired out a buggy in Tuscany and they had to come with a replacement one at the eleventh hole.

Bring the man along too. and you have not lived until you touch a golf club

I am up for it as long as matches can be arranged for weekday evenings. The days are getting longer now so it should be possible to tee off at 4 and still get round

I'd be interested in this.
I've not done the test but if it's as you say that you don't need the handicap to play then I'd gladly get involved.
Note to self: Get arse back over to driving range quicksmart.

Well our society used to tee off at nine but we finished drinking at about four the next morning. But I am sure we can accomodate starting about four or the weekends. Our outings were always on a Sunday mostly with a bank holiday to follow. I will have to check if we can get weekends if we can get the numbers

May 18 2006, 12:52 pm
most courses will take advance bookings for groups. just check what's on at the time as they love selling out to corporate events at weekends.

TC1, Rus said teeing off at 4pm on workdays, not weekends. Hmmm, don't some people have to work?
Edit: My mistake, you already got that.

Unfortunately I haven't actually been on a course since 2004, so I'll need to work on my swing a bit. I would love to go sometime so long as it does not break the bank!

I´m a lady golfer :-) why not start off with this tournament which is offered on June 3rd at Eschenhof Golf Course - smack two things into one, that should make enough people to have a great outing, I´d say?!!

@ carpediem und grassenger
The und was just to show off my German. Is a handicap required for this tournament. Cost is a bit steep. I thought about thirty yoyos a head if we can get enough people. Prizes would not be flights though, well maybe the flights for a set of darts. If we cannot get enough people here maybe Eschenhof would be a good idea.

playing any course at a weekend round here will cost you a fair bit. eschenhof is one of the cheapest at 50euros. add a snack and drink at half way and prize fund and there's your 60.
you used to be able to play at holledau during the week for 30 but even those days are gone sadly. maybe a moonlight rate if you start after say 5pm monday to thursday.
the flights - we have fly nordic as sponsors who gave us 4 return flights to stockholm to add to the prize fund at our golf cup last autumn. we hope they'll do it again and we're looking at one or two other options too.

we come in all sizes (height wise that is)
average length probably is around 160-165, I´d say, so we´re not all that tall! Some german women are fairly tall as well - look at Heidi Klum and Claudia Schiffer, they are definitely taller than me and my girlfriends...
