jml, that sounds like the sort of round i used to have when playing with the guys from the office in dallas! that damned girl circulating the course in the opposite direction with lots of cold beer in her buggy played havoc with my game smile.gif
topcat 1
We have only got eight plus Carpediem who will join us if we come and play at her Scandanavian tournament.

The interest is not as much as i would have expected. sorry that first sentence came out different than I wanted it to come out.
grazzenger
tc1, i would hope to be able to round up a couple of others to come along too. from small acorns 'n' all that.
carpediem
@ Wee mun: well, I know your length - told you I enjoyed playing with you smile.gif

@topcat_1: patience, patience is the word! And gee, it will get worse when you announce a specific date tongue.gif
no, just joking - but it is a phenomonen (yes, probably spelt incorrectly), that no one wants to bind themselves to anything except if it´s the last minute and nothing else has come up... biggrin.gif
topcat 1
You're right. We will give it a few days and I am in Frankfurt this weekend. You never know we could be deluged by Monday.
wahoo
This is probably a stupid question (especially by TT standards) but this is Germany so I must ask: Can I rent clubs at the course?
hams
I'm sure Wee Mun, being the Scottish entrepreneur ( laugh.gif ) he is, would be able to fix you up nicely. wink.gif
Southern Cross
Count me in!

Alot of people I have spoken to over here told me to just sell my clubs.

Bugger that. I'll be a starter.
topcat 1
Good man yourself

That brings us up to approx ten people with a few ifs and buts. We are halfway there but we still need more volunTTeers.
bluedave
Spoke to Irish Rover today at work and he is in also.
Gen
don't complain about too little interest yet for pete's sake, the thread's only been up for one day.

Hubby plays and has been trying to get me to play. Find out if you really don't need a Handicap or Platzreife and I might be in for the hell of it (get rid of all those old balls from the basement).

Yo,

Bump the membership to another 3.

Well this is now becoming a distinct possibility. I think we have 12 at the moment but it will be better for me to check this when I am not slightly intoxicated and when I get back to munich on Sunday. I am going to mail the guy in the english golfers society for some concrete information and even if we do not get the required number of people I think we latch on to his group. From some cursory investigation I think we need about 30 people to make our own society a goer. I will check the topic again on Sunday evening.
Skokiaan
4 of us are very keen in joining the social golf society
FX5
i'm mos def keen. i had resigned myself to not being able to play golf for the year that i'm in munich due to the crazy rules around here, but if an english golf society can by-pass the rules then sign me up guv'na.
Apple Juice
Sign me up - I actually have a USGA handicap, but it has expired and I am not sure where my card is, so not sure that is much help. Anyway, I am looking for chances/excuses to play.
Skokiaan
Today we played 18 holes at the Golf Zentrum Munchen-Riem.The feeling was great!!!
topcat 1
This is getting better and better. We have 18 by my arithmetic, but I will go through the posts tomorrow to get exact figures. I will also mail the guy at the English Golf society and come back with more info as soon as he gets in touch with me.

@ Skokaan

Only eighteen holes. I thought someone as keen as you would have went round twice smile.gif

"would have gone" then but up North you say "would have went" which I think sounds much more lyrical although not grammatically correct. Anyway grammar is for those who lack originality. Teachers pah! smile.gif

spoke to Rick tonight at the Outland tc and maybe the best idea is to merge with the English Golf Society ?
topcat 1
Yeah bluedave

I have been getting that feedback myself as it seems it is a numbers game here. I spoke to a few mates who are members of various clubs and the enthusiasm to cater for societies especially new ones is pretty low. My biggest concern is that all those that expressed an interest get the opportunity to play golf whether they have a handicap or not. I am waiting for Mervyn from the English Golf Society to get back to me and I will update everyone as soon as I get some concrete information.
topcat 1
Well folks

Here is the correspondence between Mervyn, from the English golf society and myself:

Hi Mervyn

Many thanks for the quick response. I have read the website and I am very impressed. I believe, as you say, it is just the ticket for us and there is no point in reinventing the wheel. The only question that I have is about transport. Do you organise a coach or is getting to the course up to each individual golfer? I have transport myself but I think it may be a problem for some of our other prospective players.

I will post the details you provided on the Toytown site and see what the response is from those that have expressed an interest.

I will come to Ebersberg myself on Sunday and was wondering if you can confirm that it is ok if other TTer´s attend just to see what it is like.

Best regards

Tony

As you can see they are keen for us to come on board and it looks very professionally organised. The only question is about transport, which I am sure we can arrange between us. I personally would have liked to have a bus going to each event so everyone that wanted to drink could do so and I think a trip by coach creates good atmosphere and camaradarie but maybe that is something for further down the line.

I assume that Mervyn will have no problem with guests attending on Sunday. I will set it up in events for Sunday the 28th May at Ebersberg golf course at 8.30am later on this evening.

I can probably squeeze two other people and all the clubs and stuff into my car. The first two people to pm me have the spots and we will meet at Truderinger Bahnhof on Sunday at 7.30am.

If people still think it is best to set up our own society we can look at that after we have checked out this option.

Thanks

TC

Hi Topcat,

Well done, This sounds good, my only concearn is transport, I would be interested to know how many guys & gals would be intrested on playing on a regular basis but also who need transport.

Perhaps something along the line of number of people and nearest S/U Bahn to pickup, we would get an idea of how diverse an area the membership would be for either a large taxi or mini bus or and and for the future. :-

I know transport is a big issue and I am still waiting for confimation of the English golf society handle this. I think if we have the numbers it should not be too difficult to organise a minibus or coach if this is what people want or need. I am still waiting for a reply on TTers checking out Ebersberg on Sunday as guests and as soon as I get it I will post it in events (probably tomorrow) and see what response we get.

Enda Storey
Hi there,

Congratulations TC1 on moving forward with this.

May I lob in another idea which could be parallel to the EGS (as this has very early tee-offs).

Basically, for the duration of the summer each Friday we could put up a golf option for Sunday for those who:

- have transport (or access to)
- have a bona fide handicap and club membership somewhere (or a forged letter)
- have golf clubs
- are willing to pay the full green-fee (normally between €50-€70)

i.e. this would be geared to the semi-serious golfer so I imagine it might turn out to be just a four-ball or maybe two flights but would be very easy to organise as there would be no block booking of tee-slots.

Based on the interest, I could book the tee-off by 5pm on the Friday.

I would be willing to fly with this for the coming Sunday (at least I will put up an option on Friday to see the level of interest).

I'm in the Geising area with transport for perhaps 2 without trundlers.
But unfortunately can't make this weekend.

Also there was mention earlier of a driving range by Johanesskirchen.
Has anybody been there?
How far from the station, 5 / 10min walk that sort of thing.

Nice work though TC1
FX5
top job TC1.

unfortunately can't make this weekend. some details for your info gathering needs:

- i don't have a car (am happy to go halves or quarters or whatever for petrol costs if we end up just taking other members' cars)
- i didn't bring my clubs to germany with me (am assuming hiring clubs at each course is no problem)
- i live in schwabing (closest to giselastrasse u-bahn station)

looking forward to playing golf some time soon!
FX5
oh - and i don't have a registered handicap and am not a member of a club in australia.
grazzenger
@southern cross. i guess the range at johanneskirchen is about 10 mins walk from the s-bahn. (don't know if a footpath cuts across or not). there's the range, practice bunkers and greens and a little 6 hole course which is good for medium and short iron practice (longest par 4 is 250m and the greens are pretty small). you can play around it as many times as you like for 25euros per day at the weekend.
Southern Cross
Many Thanks grazzenger.

That must be the cheapest in Munich.
Seeing as my drives can be a bit wayward at times and my short game is crap it might be just the ticket.

All I need to do now is get busy with Publisher!
topcat 1
@FX5

You can certainly hire out clubs at the courses that the EGS(English Golf Society) use and you do not need a handicap or club membership to play with them. For my part I am happy to cover the petrol costs anyway.

@Enda Storey

I thought a semi-serious golfer would have no problem with the early tee time biggrin.gif I know the tee off is a bit early but that is the pay off for reduced green fees. As I said earlier the EGS looks like a simple option but if it does not satisfy the criteria of everyone we can set up something ourselves that will.

The whole idea here is to organise golf that is cheap, fun and available to golfers on TT of all abilities with no prerequisites for handicaps or club membership. At this point the EGS fufils most of those requirements.

Although I have not heard back from them yet I am still going to attend on Sunday to check it out. Anyone that wants to join me is more than welcome and there are still two spaces available in my car. We can then report back if EGS suits the needs of TT golfers or not and see if people want to join EGS or if we should start a society ourselves.

TC
FX5
thanks TC1. looking forward to your report next week (would have liked to have joined you on sunday but already got something on).

cheers.
Enda Storey
@TC1

no probs ! I'm lobbing that out there also because it would be more spontaneuos and suit those who are ready to go at short notice and have the requisites...thats all, I'll put out options for anyone who is up for it.

Best wishes,

Enda
topcat 1
No probs Enda I was only ragging you a little bit. I have also been looking at various organisations where for an annual fee you can play on any couse in Bayern. I am having the information translated at the moment because I do not trust my German that much.

With regards to Ebersberg on Sunday they will take as many guests as we want but if it is anymore than two or three they would need to know in advance. I know it is a very early start but I think if it is just me who attends it does not show a great deal of enthusiasm on our part.

On this occasion there are still two free spots in my car but they can usually organise between members if it is flagged up in advance. So lets try and get a bit of a turn out.

Thanks

TC
