Yesterday evening, before leaving home, I checked my mailboxes. Once closed the MS Outlook Express it asked me if I wanted to compress the database files. Yes, I do. After a couple of minutes (my DB counts 10.000+ messages) the computer frozen suddenly.
I restarted it by pressing the button. Today I opened the program to check my mail and I noticed it doesn't show messages after Nov the 7th. There's an internal utility to compress this DB manually: I runned it but didn't work. I honestly think that the e-mails are still there, though they are not shown.
I decided to open a ticket in the MS support center, that requires my Windows ID (because OE support doesn't exist, don't ask me why). The site says it's not a valid code, so I can't access the support page.
Ok:
1) I bought this OS and activated as requested, about a year ago.
2) How can I report them this code issue if I can't get the page without the valid code?
3) Must I only wait for OE to propose me the next compressing job (maybe in 3-4 months) and hope that this time works and gives me back those (temporarily?) lost e-mails?

Sounds like your file indexes are corrupted following unexpected termination of the compression routine. Close Outlook Express then rename the master index, "folders.dbx", after searching for all occurances (usually to be found in
"C:\Documents and Settings\<your username here>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{long silly number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express" ). OE will re-create the index when you start it next time. If you have a lot of messages this might take some time.

I didn't understand the new folders.dbx name. I even deleted from its, but OE recreates it without indexing the messages.
I've got a not so recent backup of those files (I can't copy them every single day, expecting this kind of silly errors).
MS
Also attempted to migrate that DB to Mozilla Thunderbird (I already use Firefox) but I get the same issue.

Or consider switching to

Those tips can prevent a new issue, but they don't solve this one.

Geez I thought you meant linux. Mac OS has just become even more shite.
Apple closes down OS XNice one apple, copy your main selling point largly from the generosity of the open source community, and then once you have got what you need, keep it all a secret and neglect to share your work back with the community like you originally said you would.
Wankers! No different to Microsoft.
Its also a good illustration of why the GPL is better than the BSD license too.

MS Outlook question - help needed please
So I have a standard view on MS Outlook which is displayed for all incoming mails. (eg the fields are - importance, attachment, size, from, received etc), now I want to
1 - Ensure the same view in all me folders, including personal folders. Is there any way to do this in one shot rather than going into each personal folder and changing view?
2 - Ensure the same view is the default view when I create a new personal folder.
Anyway to do this?
much appreciated!

I forgot to turn off my computer last night and what I noticed about my Microsoft Outlook XP this morning is it's showing the Http address of all my emails. So I have the email then under the email in blue are the http addresses and part of the messages. Help, how do I get back to just having one line of the email? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like AutoPreview may be on??
Try turning off by going to View menu and deselect AutoPreview.
Good Luck!

Thanks I just came to realize that about two hours ago accidentally. I was trying to hit the find button to search for an email when I discovered the real problem.
