Early this morning a man "walked in" to Konen the fashion department store in Sendlinger Strasse a tried on a few items then shortly left with a Rène Lizard belt, Armani Jeans, Prada Shoes and so on and so fourth.

I find it KLASSE! As the Germans say. My only question is are the Germans finally waking up to security measures in big cities? I mean A guy walking out after trying on a whole outfit!???

What on Earth was security doing?! They knew what he was wearing after looking at the security tapes thismorning!!!

This is some kind of publicity stunt, presumably.

See related info from the store's website: HaltetdenDieb - Konen

Indeed it is. Spot the man and let them know. I expect you will get a voucher promising 1% off all purchases over 1000 Euros

Definitely a part of their new advertising campaign. The "theft" as described above has been broadcast as a pseudo news story on the radio over the past few days. Quite clever actually. Raising the profile of their product offering by listing the various designer items "stolen".

Or you can go in and try and walk out with all of the articles of clothing. If someone spots you, tell them they won the contest. If no one spots you, you have a new collection of clothes.

Although this was a publicity stunt it does remind me of a theft my dad told me about when I was a kid. It was a from a big bank I think in Hong Kong.

Thieves came in wearing official looking boiler suits, and calmly dismantled a very expensive and large crystal chandelier that was hanging in the main foyer of the bank, and drove off with it.

Would you have stopped them?

If someone walks out of a shop and the beeper goes off (usually a clothes shop), for some reason the shop assistants (if there's no security guard) don't even blink an eye or have a look to see what happened. I've never understood this - is there a different security system than in England?

Hang on - Its a publicity stunt!

And it worked - on me anyhow...

Sorry people... :/

Sorry, it's not any publicity stunt. It's called an advert. I heard it first last week on the radio and every day since. Like you say, good advertising!

What's the difference?

Well the two differences are as follow

Publicity: Information that concerns a person, group, event, or product and that is disseminated through various media to attract public notice.

Advertising: The activity of attracting public attention to a product or business, as by paid announcements in the print, broadcast, or electronic media.

Recently, two guys dressed as computer technicians went into an airport in Australia and 'calmly' removed two mainframes!!! I reckon that eclipses the HK bank robbery.

Similar thing happened in an electronics retailer in NZ. A chap waltzed in with blue overalls and a wheelie thingamajig. Hoisted up a fridge from the floor and wheeled it out and into his van. No-one questioned him whatsoever. It's that hiding in plain sight theory, works a charm.

Allershausen! Frustration frustration frustration! You pay for an advert but a publicity stunt is doing something to shock people provoking discusion which generates awareness of your product or service. In this case the ad describes a man wearing their products, but if you listen to it you realise that he can't be wearing all of them. It's a "paid placement" in the style of a news cast.
Trouble is you don't expect ze Germans to have a sense of humour and because everything is normally black or white to them you tend to believe everything you hear. At least I do!!!

The belt,
the jeans,
the shoes,
the shirt,
