I am looking for a reputable place where I could sell a violin, it's a rather expensive violin, so ebay won't do
Does anybody know of a good place, or know someone in the orchestra business that might know? Any hints are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

I'll ask at my band tonight. It's a wind band, but someone might know somewhere.

There is a shop on Franziskanerstr near the Chaos restaurant called Hofer Violins I believe. Don't know if they do repair or sales, never been in myself.
Keydeck, I think the problem with ebay is that the people who might be interested in paying large amounts of money for an instrument would want to see certificates and actually see how well it plays etc. And I think a store that specializes in buying/selling instruments just might have more expertise than I do. I will consider it though, maybe I'll be lucky, who knows

hi jxn,
I passed by a violin shop today. It was 43 Franziskaner Str (I think). Sorry I can't remember the name on the shop. So even if they don't want to buy it I'm sure they could give you some advice. I have seen another violin shop somewhere but I can't remember where.

Someone at band very seriously suggested Sotheby's. If it's really good. He said that at the moment there was a violin tester there who could value it for you. Here's the info for the Munich office:
Odeonsplatz 16

) How old? you chucking the bow in with it?
Woo thanks for all the tips.
Urban Angel, I will contact you as soon as I get it (it's in italy right now).
I just wanted to do some research so I know what to do with it as soon as I have it.
Anyways I will check those stores and get in touch with you, Urban Angel.
