Hi everyone,

Could you recommend me a good and not too expensive hotel in Cologne?

Thanks and all the best.

Hotel Santo in Dagobert Str. is a nice hotel. It's a smallish hotel in a quiet side street but easy walking distance to the city centre and train station. It's always been reasonably priced when I've had people stay there.

Stayed at CityHotel Caprice, just off Heumarkt at Silvester. Quite cheap & centrally located. Good breakfast although not an especially brilliant hotel.

Can recommend Hotel Buchholz, Kunibertgasse, just north of the Hauptbahnhof, v. close to Rheinufer.
Anglophile (perhaps even part-English) management. http://www.hotel-buchholz.de
Haven't stayed there myself, but met up with someone visiting from the UK who is pretty choosy.

My very hip and modern in-laws (who like good quality and nice design but at a reasonable price) are coming to visit, as are my parents. At one point, we won't have enough space for everyone, so are looking for hotel recommendations. We live near the Uniklinik, in Sülz. I checked out the Holiday Inn on the Stadtwald since it is fairly nearby, but seems pricey for what it is. Anyone have any other recommendations? The other two hotels in the neighborhood are pretty awful, I did find a nice pension, though, but it is full during the time period we are looking for (end of Feb.) Preferably we'd like something along tram line 9, in an interesting area, so they can easily get to us, so no further than Heumarkt. What about Mauritiustherme Hotel? Or Am Agustinerplatz? Any thoughts on those? Others? (I already checked the archive search, but the hotels there are not exactly in the right area, nor really their style.) THANKS!!

Hi missyj,
An alternative to hotels, which I always find cheaper much nicer are furnished, rental holiday apartments otherwise known as ferienwohnung. Do a google search for Köln ferienwohnungs - i did and found this website: http://www.ferienhausmiete.de/ferienhaus_s...p?subregion=129. Hope they have a great time smile.gif

Did you have a look at the Regent on Melatengürtel? Faily new hotel, modern and sleek design. Will take you about 10 mins to get there. I like it, however, it doesn't have a proper restaurant. They only serve breakfast and then they offer snacks at the bar. But I presume your family would not eat dinner in a hotel anyway...
