But, but ... its lawless! And all the drugs! Its not even the real Netherlands!
Kat
I'm an American. Perhaps I'll bring a gun. Doesn't anyone know of a cool central hotel?
Pat Bateman
Uh...

I'm afraid of Americans

Sorry, no hotel recommandations from me. My last visits to Adam are quite long ago and then i used to sleep in the bus and/or with acquaintances rolleyes.gif

Its definetly a very nice city. To me its the City of Love much more then Paris. Get a boat!

Edit: think about getting a small houseboat for the stay, Amsterdam looks best from the water!

In case there is no one here who can give a first hand recommendation, others have recommended web pages such as tripadvisory.com or hostelworld.com (if you're on a budget).
Kat
Thanks. I've found something central through http://www.booking.com which is the link tripavisory gives. They have a really good database with photos, maps and most importantly, lots of guest reviews, so you can really get an idea of what you're booking. City center is not cheap, but I found something semi-reasonable in a two star on Damrak.

We'll be there for the Queens day festival

Kat, you have picked the most PERFECT day to visit Amsterdam!! I'm trying to get that day off to drive back home for Queens Day weekend, so if you need transportation, I might be able to help you out.

amsterdam is a lawless shithole that serves smack and other drugs like sweets to a child . if you you speak to a dutch person about amsterdam they just laugh at you and say well thats not holland. get out of the place as soon as you can for a real tatse of holland

You either haven't been to Amsterdam yourself or you're too drunk at the moment you posted.

I always stay with my mate in South Amsterdam, the fleamarket was always worth a visit. We went to some cool concerts in squatted buildings. There“s also an alternative tour - here was a famous squat, here was where the politie got their water cannon out, etc., Oh, and you have to eat Vla and Appelstroop.

If you want a list of activities good for adults and teenagers I can give you that. I've been there multiple times since I was 17 (so I guess multiple times in the past 8 years). By myeself, with friends, and with my high school.
Later I'll check which hotels I've staid at. All were clean with bathrooms in the room and good locations.

A travel tip for the weekend of April 28th - May 1st: Go to Amsterdam for Queen's Day festival.

Just an impression of how the city looks like on that day:
