I need to make a voice recording for my current project at work.

I do have Adobe Audition but have had no joy trying to teach myself how to do it yet can anybody give me any tips or know of any online teach yourself sites?

Or would it be easier for me just to use Windows media player? Obviously I know the quality will not be as good but I need something for a demo for the end of the week I do have a bit more time to work on the final version.

I'd just use windows sound recorder for a quick and dirty solution as you dont need to worry about learning how to use it, just click record and speak into microphone!
normally it is found under Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder.

Thanks for that!

I have now discovered that my microphone is not working though arghhhhhhh

Thats why I always use sound recorder to test the microfone first as it is a simple application, so very little to prat around with in the way of settings.

Ok, is it plugged in? Is it enabled in control panel under sounds and audio devices, and is the microphone volume not set to mute in the volume controler?

Right realised they were working on my laptop and then changed the settings on the PC :-)

Thanks for the help! Quality is not really very good though I guess I can work on that in audition

the only problem with windows sound recorder is you only get 60 sec record time

Hi Muffin,

Google for "Goldwave". Its a freeware audio recorder and editor and is relatively simple to use. Once you`ve installed the software make sure that the Mike is connected to the "Mic" socket of you Laptop/soundcard and also check the Windows System settings (start/Systemsteuerung/Audio) that the Microphone input is activated.

Failing that PM me with the text and I`ll record it for you and send you the Wave/MP3 file over the net. Making noises is what I do for a Living.

Sound recorder can be longer than 60 secs, just copy and paste and elongate the "window" so that you can record for as long as you like.

Topic is no longer active but for someone else looking to record voice on a PC:

Google for a freeware program called 'Audacity'. It is very straightforward but also very powerful. Easy to record and edit (i.e. if you make a mistake, just repeat the line again and cut out the mistake after).

Also has some audio effects; I use the 'Remove Noise' on all recordings as it (you guessed it) removes noise and really cleans up the recording.
