Anyone ever used one of these car sharing services and have any comments they would like to share?

Mitfahrzentrale is another good source for car pooling. It is cheaper than any other form of transportation and is nationwide. Note that car sharing is not intended for people who want to drive all over Germany, it is made for city use. I looked into car sharing and they discouraged trips over 100 km.

Do check out Stattauto -- see my post at Stattauto and we've made plenty of trips over 100km, no problem. We've been members for two years.

I've also had good success with Mitfahrzentrale.

Does anyone know where the Mitfahzentrale Munich office is physically located?

I've joined stattauto and I have to say I'm really impressed so far.

I know its been more fully covered elsewhere but basically you pay 7 Euros a month and you can rent one of their cars for whatever you want. You pay an hourly fee (€1.70 an hour for the smallest car) and an amount per km (17cents/km for the smallest including petrol). They have 450 odd cars (including estates/wagons, cabrios, minibusses and vans) in 60 stations around Munich. There are 3 stations each with at least 4 cars within 5 mins walk from me in Schwabing. You just book online (or call) and then swipe your card on front of the keysafe at the park place and it opens and gives you the car key.

I have managed to book a car online for right away, walk round, drive it to a shop and return it all within 30 mins with a cost of €4 or something.

Pretty damn good.

I would like to add that having been a member of Stattauto for three years now, I can only recommend it. The people who run it are extremely helpful and it seems, especially now that they are linked with Deutche Bahn's car sharing service, that it just keeps getting better. I have three kids and no car, something that my friends back in the States find amazing.
