English language training for Germans

Sitting in a pub and discussing different topics

Hello,

I have founded a group of German people who want to improve their English. We are meeting every second week in a pub and discuss spontaneous different topics - whatever comes in our mind. At the moment we are only Germans so I´m searching some native English-speakers who want to join. The group is about 5 to 10 people. The average age is 30 years. Here I list where you can meet us:

Date: 16.05.2006 at 20 o´clock
Location: Wirtshaus zum alten Kreuz, Falkenstr. 23, Giesing
How to come there: U1/U2 Kolumbusplatz
I will reserve a table on the name "Englischstammtisch". I would be glad if someone of you want to come.

hmm an english stammtisch, its been a while since I heard those words uttered here. the last one i knew of was organised by Nighthawk at the augustiner keller on every 2nd saturday... I think its stopped now.

are you part of muenchersingles?
ulrike1972
Hi pootle,

yes I`m part of the münchner singles. I joined the group Nighthawk had founded but then the group dissolved. I was a little bit sad about this and thought that I want to held it alive. The group of people I have know is a mixture between different forums. I post it always in the münchner singles and an other called new in town. In new in town I have a distribution e-mail list of 50 people. But we have unfortunatley no Natives. This is the reason I posted here.

TT has an inofficial German-speaking regular meet-up (hosted by Shaggy), perhaps some of y'all could go to it and try to recruit that way. but pleeeeese, don't encourage your folk to try to infiltrate TT. it's for the English-speaking crowd after all, not a place to improve your English. ph34r.gif

EDIT: found the German-speaking stammtisch post: Stammtisch
Uncle Nick
@Elfenstar: I think it´s fair enough to have a thread looking for English-speaking people to join a Stammtisch, I wouldn´t necessarily call that "infiltration" leave it to individuals to decide whether they want to go or not.

Would it be helpful if I corrected your written English? Sorry, I'm a pedant and it's very hard to resist...
OhFFS
Now, now, play nicely UA!
HelterSkelter
To get to speak to natives, you could just pop down to one of the expat places and talk to people.

Wouldn't call it infiltration, there's enough members here who learned english as second/third/fourth... language and who use this forum as an informational ressource (and also provide some for others)... as long as everyone posts in english, why shouldn't they?
Hutcho
Yeh, or even more so, all the people that go to the German stammtisch could just go *anywhere* and talk to some Germans!

Obviously it is nicer to be at an event where everyone shares you intent, rather than bothering people with your poor English/German..
HelterSkelter
OK, you got a point there... still if you're at a level when you can babble along with your Stammtisch, you could try the next step. As I get it, the group speaks english fluently to some level and now wants to meet native speakers.

As a fellow pedant, I have to say that I didn't think the original post was too bad. Sure, there were a few bits of Denglisch, but that was nothing compared to the basic errors, consistent mistakes and often downright unreadability of many native English speakers' written English.

As a foreigner, the original poster at least has an excuse biggrin.gif

Hello Ulrike,

As a Queen's College (HK) old boy, and having lived and worked donkey's years in London, I feel at home talking English, despite my not having been born English! I'm a so-called 'BBBC'.
But I think I am still the only ASIATIC courier who had guided coach-loads of ENGLISH TOURISTS travelling from London via Germany to the Tyrol (for 3 Summers!).

Anyway, I'd like to join your crowd for some chit-chats - especially if & when someone is interested in touristic ENGLISH (my trade).

A wee bit of detective work tells me that you and your friends will be meeting again on TUESDAY, 13th June @ 20.00 hours (CET).

I'd be delighted to know if I'm on the right track.

Cheers! Paul

Hello Paul,

you have good detective skills! Yes we are meeting again on 13 th of June at 20 o´clock at the pub called "Wirtshaus zum alten Kreuz", Falkenstr. 23. I would be glad if you want to choin us. As you are a tourist guide I would be glad if you could help me to get to know to Munich - I still need a map to get along in Munich and there are many many interesting places I still don´t know.

I had a lovely time, thankyou to those who tolerated my rambling English nonsense. I apologise for blithering on a bit, but that's what beer does to me. On second thoughts, no, that's just me I'm afraid.

I'm going to stalk you all now, until you must change location to escape me *MWAHAAHAAA!*

jml
well hell i was going to go but if you've heard one english speaking stalker you've heard them all.
Sidthespid
I'm sure there are subtle variations in the psyche of most stalkers. You should still come along, after all, you might be worse than me biggrin.gif

Hi Ulrike,
I hope you don't mind if I point out that when telling the time in English,
"o'Clock" is used for the hours on a clock or watch face, that is from 1 o'clock to 12 o'clock.
If you wanted to differentiate between morning and afternoon, then it is, for example 8 am or 8 pm.
If using the 24 hour system, then it is 00:00 to 23:59 hrs.
