Alpine Hiking with the Munich Wanderers

Hey all,

somebody mentioned the Munich Wanderers recently but I can't find it anymore (searched for all kinds of words). Anyway the wanderers have their monthly social tomorrow night and I was wondering if anybody is interested in going there. You don't have to be a member to go there, although you have to be a member of the DAV = Deutscher Alpenverein if you want to join any of their hikes. They say it's for insurance reasons...
I've gone on a hike with them once and they don't actually whether you're a member or not. I'm a member myself 'cause the DAV has a lot to offer anyway.

So if anybody wants to go there tomorrow (June 3rd) PM or email me.
gideon
it helps to be a member because you're then automaticly insured for the cost of the bergrettung.
if you don't have this, and you're in an official group, then the you may get into a legal battle with the bergführer for the costs, ie his negligence etc as he was in command of the hike.

it all sounds very OFFICIAL. but if you've seen how much it costs to have ten guys and one helicopter to get you out 'cos you were wairing trainers. then you'd think about it.

also last point if you ski alot the insurance covers that two. had a friend who broke a leg in two places this season. and they flew him out instead of carried him out. this saves pain and time believe me.

oh last last point. if you're a dav member you grt reductions on equipment at basecamp, you get reduced prices for staying overnight in the hütte (a must) etc etc.

Gideon, just to add a clarification, you get reductions at DAV and ÖAV (Austrian Alpen Club) huts, not private ones. But that still gives you several to choose from. And if you are a member, you will never ever get turned away if you want to spend the night there, even if you didn't make a reservation and the hut is full.

I haven't ever been on a Munich Wanderers hike, but I do know some of the organisers and they are friendly people.
gideon
yep thanks showem, forgot there are private ones.
i think you still get a reduction on those in italy/südtirol too
(obviously not the priate ones)

i've never known anybody get turned away. cos your 2500 meters up a montain and its cold outside. what happens usualy is that you have to sleep on the floor!

There is a reciprocal agreement between all of the Alpine clubs (CAI, CAF, DAV, ÖAV etc.). So you get reductions on all of the Alpine club huts in the Alps (over 2000). You are also entitled to reduced price meal (Bersteigeressen) but it is always fixed to one particular meal (usually Pasta).

@joolybooly

thanx joolybooly, but actually I wasn't looking for the right link... I just remembered that somebody was mentioning the wanderers in one thread and I couldn't find it anymore. So I thought I just ask and see who else of the TTs is/was interested.

I'll be at the stammtisch tomorrow. You don't have to be a member of anything to go to the stammtisch - everyone's welcome. They sit outside when the weather's nice, therefore tomorrow they'll be inside. Downstairs I think.
