Dog sitting - what to do if it rains

Answer: take an umbrella

I am looking after a friend's dog tomorrow for most of the day. I've looked at the weather forecast, and unfortunately it does not look like a promising day for the Englisher Garden! I do not think it would be a good idea to keep her inside my room all day either. The dog is medium sized and loves to play with other dogs.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could possibly do with the dog tomorrow?

I look forward to any suggestions! smile.gif

Thank you!

What?

Take an umbrella.

Good thought Small Town Boy. I will definitely take an umbrella with me, but if it is really pouring outside, that can only get me so far!

I've come up with generic things like sitting in a cafe or going to a beer hall, but I maybe someone else has a idea I have not thought of...if not, thanks for taking the time to read my post!

If you've promised to look after the dog, you have to take it for a walk, never mind the weather, you lazy git.

Dogs love rain. It shouldn´t be a prob.

What do you expect, an indoor-playground for dogs?? blink.gif I'd suggest raingear for you, towels for the dog, strategically positioned in the hallway or so before you enter the house. Our dogs love when it's pouring and they can roll around the puddles, it's just a bit more work when coming home ... have fun!! ;-)

Thought this could be useful...and it's matching so you won't look totally daft laugh.gif

mere
dogs still need to walk and get exercise rain, hail, or sun!
carry an umbrella (or do what i do and just know you're going to get soaked) and dry the dog off when you're done.
if you want to meet b/f noon i can bring my dog and meet up and the dogs can play

Cookie HATES rain, and most dogs (typed in gods there the first time ph34r.gif ) of her breed do as well. Most dogs don't mind.

Could you hide treats around the house (just little pieces, watch them calories!) and have him/her find them? Also, if you have stairs, you can play fetch up and down the stairs (where the dog goes up and down, just to clarify. biggrin.gif But that would be a great workout for you. You'd look like an idiot but . . . )

Cookie, Cookie is not medium-sized though.

Get a treadmill... But don't do what some American Footballer did a couple of years ago. He always put his dog on the treadmill in the morning so it got some excercise. One morning, however, he forgot about the dog and went to training. Came back to find the dog dead from a heart attack and a rather...urrmmm..messy treadmill. Yes yes, why did the dog not just jump off it? Well he was tied to the mill by his leash for a start and some dogs are stupid I guess.

But seriously. Take the dog for a walk as they have to go whether you like it or not. Maybe you should have done a little more research before offering to look after your friend's dog

Nope - she's extra small. Travel size, really. biggrin.gif

what is wrong with getting wet in the rain anyway?? It can be quite refreshing.
jml
If you want to avoid getting wet,

1. Outsource - There are two TT Kids that would probably help you out for cash.
2. Saran Wrap - Yourself and the dog. Its good enough for Peta spokesperson Pam Anderson, apparently or rather, transparently.

Yeti
When dogs get wet they explode. Fact.

Thanks for the tips jml. If the image of wrapping myself in saran wrap would not be so frightening, I would give it a go. Luckily the rain is holding off smile.gif

p.s. The dog came over with her own rain jacket. If only she had matching rain boots...

That would give the impression that the dog will happily go for a walk with you in the rain. You could possibly learn something from the dog and don a rain jacket also??

Sorry, I don't think the rain should affect your dog sitting duties in any way that is worthy of a thread really.
