Are you guys talking about a backup plan for rain? Or because it's a little cool. If it's not training then still at the
Hirschgarten (With Jackets)?

80% chance of rain at 6pm according to weather.com. Plus chilly and gray regardless. Not very relaxing to set outside in the damp, shivering and wondering when the rain might start.
Well I'm looking outside and the wind is blowing hard and it's spitting rain. I expect the Biergarten to be wet, even if it's not raining. Sure, the sun could come out, but it doesn't look likely.
How about, we get EllaB to book us into her place with the pool tables, and we cancel and go to the
Hirschgarten if the sun is out by 17:00?
Edit: Ella_b, we would need the name of the place and directions.

Sounds good. I'm in appointments until noon, and then will be able to confirm. I'll post a yes/no by 12:30pm. It might be good if someone could call the
Hofbräuhaus at the same time, just in case. If the sun does miraculously come out and the temperture jumps up, of course it would be lovely to keep the original plan.

BTW, the weather report says it may clear somewhat, but it will be a high of 15 and feel like 14°. That's friggin' cold.
I'll see you all at Schelling-Salon, from say 19:00?
For those also frustrated by the ruined

So are we definitely meeting at the Schelling - Salon then or only if the weather is bad? In which case how bad is bad? This may cause confusion and people going to different places. I think it would be best to decide on an indoor place at this point regardless of the weather since it seems like you never really know whether it'll rain or not.
I agree. Indoors at the
Schelling Salon it is. Munich won't be going tropical anytime today. I've changed the topic title to match the changed plan.

If memory serves, there is a bus or 2 going there and Üniversität Ubahn stop is only 3 blocks away for walking or a bus.
Will it be self service or full? Can I bring my own food? Will there be a big flag or inflatable somethingorother so I can find the table? Do they serve mango schnapps?
1) Full

I made a reservation for us at the Gasthalle
Schelling Salon for 18h30- it is under "Amerikanische Stammtisch" in case the weather doesn't improve. Schelling Salon is impossible to miss- a light green building with white stone work and a little steeple, right on the corner of Schellingstr. and Barer Str. You can take the U6 to
Universität, or the 154 Bus or 27 Tram to Schellingstr. I believe you can also take the U2 to Josephplatz?

Several people have asked for a clarification about where we'll meet tonight and what bad weather means. First, the weather: The rain seems to have passed, but it will be rather cool this evening (10-11 degrees or, as Americans would say, in the low 50s). That's probably too cool for enjoying an outdoor venue. Therefore, the final decision about tonight is that we'll
meet at the Gaststätte Schelling-Salon. (We'll try the
Hirschgarten another time, to be sure!)

Hirschgarten would have been great for mine (what with the Hirsch and all), but I don't know about an indoor place; of course if there are other kids there, then it might be fun for her to converse with bilingual kids; otherwise, I'll go alone and leave the Deutsch sprechers at home.

Wow, the Stammtisch last night that at one point grew to 40 or so people. We'll have to remember the Gaststätte for a future (indoor) venue.
For next time, let's do what we had planned for yesterday before the weather turned cold, namely gather at the
Hirschgarten on
Friday, July 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. (latecomers OK). For directions,
click here and then on "Anfahrtsplan" (bottom left corner) to download a pdf of a map. Take any S-Bahn train to
Laim (3 stops west of the
Hauptbahnhof). Then follow the map 5-10 minutes (?) to the
Hirschgarten.
Here is the
exact location within the beer garden, on Google Maps. It is also the area labelled "number 2" on the following
satellite photo.
Also, here's info about taking the tram:
QUOTE
(from mudshark) If you take the tram, get on 16 or 17 and get off at Steubenplatz or Kriemhildenstr. The number 51 bus goes there too.
At the Hirschgarten we'll be in the outdoor self-service section of the Biergarten, where bringing food (but not drinks!) is permitted. It would be great if some others could be there by 6:30, so we can cover a few tables with flags or other obviously American markings. Bringing something to share (pie, fried chicken, etc.) is entirely optional but would certainly whet our collective appetite if you indicate that below on the sign-up sheet!
