Thanks everyone for a nice time last night, especially Oh_Angela for coming early to take a table. I hope it wasn't too difficult to find me with the Cubs hat!

Several people seemed interested in meeting in a different Biergarten in 4 or 5 weeks, which would be Friday, June 13 or 20. I might express a slight preference for Friday, June 13, which could make planning the following Stammtisch 3 weeks later on Friday, July 4 (!!!) a little easier. All we need is to agree is agree on the next date and location and start another sign-up sheet.

Last night was my first time to attend the Americans in Munich Stammtisch, and I met a lot of really nice people. I look forward to the next one. June 13th and July 4th works for me!

June 13th and July 4th sound like great dates. I volunteer to be one of the early birds who claims the table, this time.

Hofbräuhaus has a really great beer garden just off the Wiener Platz in Haidhausen, a few steps from Max Weber Platz U-bahn and tram connections. If it's raining, they also have a sizeable Keller. Just a suggestion.

My remaining favorite beer gardens in Munich, for suggestion:

1) Augustiner
2) Hirshgarten

Would someone like to make a reservation there for 25 people, 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13? All we need is a reservation and to start the sign-up list.

A potluck beer garden get together could be a possibility for 4th of July! Everyone can bring their own creations such as chicken wings, ribs, chips, dip, veggies, potato salad, corn bread, etc., (basically, 4th of July food)...instead of buying food at the beer garden. what do ya'll think about that?

Btw, both dates are fine with me!!

You're always allowed to bring in outside food to beer gardens. It's actually a law. Hirschgarten has a big sign stating so (if memory serves me correctly)

Beergardens started out with people bringing their own food because the breweries were not allowed to sell it, just beer. So bring it on - just not sushi. So out of form ...
I am a maybe so I won't sign up yet, it could mess up your nice list.

I don't think bringing food is allowed when you sit in the full service areas that some beer gardens have.

Actually, I don't plan on bringing food so it doesn't really matter to me.

Hubby told me recently that it's not a law with the food in the beergardens, just tradition. He'd read it somewhere but couldn't give me a source. Anyway, it's definitely only in self-service areas that you can bring your own.

Thanks for reserving at Hirschgarten. We live near there so it's great for us.
We'll wear baseball caps too, although not from athletic teams; perhaps the opposite. Probably Anchor Steam (SFO) and Red Mill Burgers (SEA).
For the 4th, we would be happy to contribute to a potluck. We can go either way. I THINK we are available.

Happy to be corrected re bringing outside food into a self-serve area. Obviously I need more Biergarten experience! The sign-up is primarily to know how much table space to scope out. For those wanting directions to the Hirschgarten, click here and then on "Anfahrtsplan" to download a pdf of a map. With the train, take any S-Bahn to Laim (3 stops west of the Hauptbahnhof). Then follow the map 5-10 minutes (?) to the Hirschgarten.

I have full size Vermont flag we could fly. Recognizable, yet won't draw the scorn of the locals or others.
