This may have been brought up on another forum but is there going to be an AiM meetup sometime/somewhere at the Oktoberfest?
amimeli
The next Americans in Munich meeting is this Wednesday, Oct. 6th at the Big Easy!

What: AIM meetup at the Big Easy
Where: The Big Easy, Frundsbergstr. 46 / Ecke Ruffinistraße
When: Wed, Oct. 6, at 7 PM.

This month we'll be meeting at the Big Easy, a Cajun, New Orleans style restaurant. It is located in the neighborhood of Neuhausen. To get there take the U-Bahn to Rotkreuzplatz. See this link for a map with:directions to the restaurant

For info about the Big Easy, see their website: thebigeasy.de

As always, everyone is welcome, regardless of nationality! New people to Munich are especially welcome.

Ask for the Americans in Munich group when you arrive if you haven't come before.

Hope to see lots of people there! biggrin.gif

I could go for some cajun. Just might make it.

Just curious how the AIM went at Big Easy. Any reviews on the food? Couple of us have been wanting to make the trip up to give it a try and get our Cajun fix.

Hoping they start the Sunday brunch back up as I heard it was pretty good.

thanks in advance for the reviews.
Showem
There are a few reviews here.
Webmaster6
@showem,

thanks, I looked at those before posting, just thought I might get a few more while still fresh in folks minds...
Johnny_who?
after reading the reviews I expected excellent food...

I ordered some (chicken) gumbo which was absolutlely bland, maybe it was the "let's not make it too hot for the Germans" idea, but it was more like a tomato soup.

Others were quite happy with the dishes they had, maybe it was just bad luck.

Atmosphere was good and we were seated in a non-smoking area which was quite nice and it's definitely worth mentioning in Munich.

Maybe I'll try the brunch some day.
amimeli
In contrary to Johnny_Who? I really liked my meal. But I got a salad.
I also liked the fact that there is a non-smoking section at Big Easy. Rare to find those in German restaurants. The Big Easy has capacity for large groups, but it is along a wall with benches on one side and chairs on the other with a long table. It was difficult to get out if you were against the side with the wall to mingle, so I will be looking for a better mingling place for next month's meeting.
bee_sting
i agree with johnny who. the main courses are over-rated. The acadia appetizers are to die for though, and I've heard the soups are good. The main dishes appear bigger and with more sustenance than they have. Overall, it's not real cajun, but it is above average munich with a nice atmosphere.
Diver Jim
My steak was excellent.
munichmary
when and where is the next get together?
Webmaster6
Went to the Big Easy on Friday night. I was really impressed with the food - I tried the appetizer sampler and went with the Jambalaya. Everything on the entire menu actually sounded really great. Wait staff were friendly and efficient.

I liked the interior decor but found the overall atmosphere to be a little loud, especially when crowded, couldn't really hear the background music.

They really pack it in; tables were very close, so not much for romance if that's part of your intentions. I will definitely go back and give it another try, possibly on a weeknight as opposed to a weekend.

Hope to see some new faces!
Melissa

PS – Yes, I realize that this is not the first Wednesday of the month. : ) I thought a Tuesday would be work too for a change. I won’t be here in January for the first Wednesday of January either. But expect to have a meeting in the middle of January instead.
BadDoggie
I was hoping to stop by this time, but Tuesday? Interfering with Curry Night is bad enough, but you'd couldn't have chosen a worse day. I'll be at TT Tuesday drinks.
amimeli
@Baddoggie
The Americans in Munich group is usually completely different people than the Toytown group, so if you want to meet new people then feel free to join us. There are 3 other TT Tuesdays a month, but only one AIM meeting!
amimeli
Just a reminder that the Americans in Munich meeting this month (Dec.) is tomorrow (Tues. Dec. 7th!) at Edison and Co.!
Hope to see you there! biggrin.gif
Melissa
randy
Sounds good, I'ld like to go; perhaps a little later, like 8.

amimeli
Of course, Canadians are welcome too! Depending on your accent, we may not even notice unless you tell us you are Canadian!
Izabella
i think i'll have to check this out tonight... meet some of my fellow amis.
brokenm
I am new (a couple of months) to Munich and would like to come, but I would come alone. Will there be any other new comers coming?
Izabella
would be my first time too
smartini
My first time also...don't worry I'm coming alone also smile.gif

Btw, I've also only been in Munich about 2 months !! I figured the best way to meet people is to join groups like this one !!

Should be fun...hope to see you there

Susan
randy
Nice dinner, and enjoyed meeting y'all! Thanks for organizing, animeli.
Izabella
for those that stayed till the chicken-brain-protein discussion @ the bitter end, my favorite alternative news source coincidently has a hilarious article for us today

switch from those cute little chicks to mice please...
brokenm
Glad I was gone by that time or my job may have been condemmed. It was nice to talk with the few I did. See you around.
davo
Couldn't make this one unfortunately, but maybe I'll meet some of my fellow Americans at the next one...

Cheers!
amimeli
@Izabella Thanks for the article link Izabella. The Onion is a definitely a good source of reliable news. laugh.gif (HA!! HA!!)
smartini
At the American Stamtisch someone mentioned that there's a website where Germans that want to learn English can hook up with English speaking people that want to learn German. It's a free service, just a meeting point for individuals to meet up and exchange their language skills.

I can't remember the website !! If someone can post it or PM me it would be greatly appreciated !

The next Americans in Munich meeting is next Tuesday, Jan. 18th at Atlas Cafe!

What: AIM meetup at Atlas
Where: Atlas Cafe, Innere Wiener Str. 2, Haidhausen
When: Tues, Jan. 18th, at 7 PM.

The Atlas is just around the corner from the Gasteig.
To get to Atlas, you have all sorts of options:
Take tram 18 to Am Gasteig, or U4/5 or Trams 15, 18, 19 or 25 to Max-Weber-Platz. Or you can go to Rosenheimer Platz and exit at the Gasteig exit. Atlas is on the corner of Kellerstr. and Preysingerstr.

Ask the staff for where the Americans in Munich group is or listen for a group speaking English. smile.gif I'm hoping that it will be quiet enough at first so that we can hear each other talk. But I've heard that it turns into quite a happening place later in the evening.

The food at Atlas Cafe is excellent. They have an international cuisine, so there should be something for everyone's taste.

As always, everyone is welcome, regardless of nationality! New people to Munich are especially welcome.

Hope to see lots of people there!
Melissa
interplanetjanet
Hey, welcome back amimeli! Good to hear from ya. I hope you had a nice trip. Hm, perhaps I'll actually make it to this one. Will get back on that later...
Muffin Man
It's about friggin time
Mikey
I'm new to the TT group and excited to meet fellow American expats. Perhaps we can hold hands and talk about how we've come to welcome George W into our hearts and minds. biggrin.gif
randy
Sounds good, I'll join too (but not hold hands).
Izabella
see ya'll there... but don't try to hold my hand either... i'll bite cool.gif
brokenm
I'll come as well. Met you all briefly as I had to leave after an hour or so, but this time I can last much longer...but no holding hands or biting for me
plain Jane
I would like to see the day changed back to Wednesday nights so it doesn't interfere with the TTT meeting
interplanetjanet
No way - then it would interfere with curry.
Muffin Man
Unfortunately, I can't make this one. Have to fly to Düsseldorf tommorow and wont get back until late. I do agree with Plain Jane, though...move it back to Wednesday.
DrivinWest
I'm tempted just to go to TT Tues tonight as it is within spitting distance of my place... Otherwise I'd meet up with you folks. Bella, and chance you wanna give me a ride? biggrin.gif
