This may have been brought up on another forum but is there going to be an AiM meetup sometime/somewhere at the Oktoberfest?

Just curious how the AIM went at Big Easy. Any reviews on the food? Couple of us have been wanting to make the trip up to give it a try and get our Cajun fix.
Hoping they start the Sunday brunch back up as I heard it was pretty good.
thanks in advance for the reviews.

@showem,
thanks, I looked at those before posting, just thought I might get a few more while still fresh in folks minds...

after reading the reviews I expected excellent food...
I ordered some (chicken) gumbo which was absolutlely bland, maybe it was the "let's not make it too hot for the Germans" idea, but it was more like a tomato soup.
Others were quite happy with the dishes they had, maybe it was just bad luck.
Atmosphere was good and we were seated in a non-smoking area which was quite nice and it's definitely worth mentioning in Munich.
Maybe I'll try the brunch some day.

In contrary to Johnny_Who? I really liked my meal. But I got a salad.
I also liked the fact that there is a non-smoking section at Big Easy. Rare to find those in German restaurants. The Big Easy has capacity for large groups, but it is along a wall with benches on one side and chairs on the other with a long table. It was difficult to get out if you were against the side with the wall to mingle, so I will be looking for a better mingling place for next month's meeting.

i agree with johnny who. the main courses are over-rated. The acadia appetizers are to die for though, and I've heard the soups are good. The main dishes appear bigger and with more sustenance than they have. Overall, it's not real cajun, but it is above average munich with a nice atmosphere.

Went to the Big Easy on Friday night. I was really impressed with the food - I tried the appetizer sampler and went with the Jambalaya. Everything on the entire menu actually sounded really great. Wait staff were friendly and efficient.
I liked the interior decor but found the overall atmosphere to be a little loud, especially when crowded, couldn't really hear the background music.
They really pack it in; tables were very close, so not much for romance if that's part of your intentions. I will definitely go back and give it another try, possibly on a weeknight as opposed to a weekend.

PS – Yes, I realize that this is not the first Wednesday of the month. : ) I thought a Tuesday would be work too for a change. I won’t be here in January for the first Wednesday of January either. But expect to have a meeting in the middle of January instead.

The Americans in Munich group is usually completely different people than the Toytown group, so if you want to meet new people then feel free to join us. There are 3 other TT Tuesdays a month, but only one AIM meeting!

At the American Stamtisch someone mentioned that there's a website where Germans that want to learn English can hook up with English speaking people that want to learn German. It's a free service, just a meeting point for individuals to meet up and exchange their language skills.
I can't remember the website !! If someone can post it or PM me it would be greatly appreciated !

The next Americans in Munich meeting is next Tuesday, Jan. 18th at Atlas Cafe!
What: AIM meetup at Atlas
Where: Atlas Cafe, Innere Wiener Str. 2, Haidhausen
When: Tues, Jan. 18th, at 7 PM.
The Atlas is just around the corner from the Gasteig.
To get to Atlas, you have all sorts of options:
Take tram 18 to Am Gasteig, or U4/5 or Trams 15, 18, 19 or 25 to Max-Weber-Platz. Or you can go to Rosenheimer Platz and exit at the Gasteig exit. Atlas is on the corner of Kellerstr. and Preysingerstr.
Ask the staff for where the Americans in Munich group is or listen for a group speaking English.

I'm hoping that it will be quiet enough at first so that we can hear each other talk. But I've heard that it turns into quite a happening place later in the evening.
The food at Atlas Cafe is excellent. They have an international cuisine, so there should be something for everyone's taste.
As always, everyone is welcome, regardless of nationality! New people to Munich are especially welcome.
Hope to see lots of people there!
