Mopeds, helmets and radwegs

Afternoon all!

Just curious as to whether riders of mopeds restricted to 25kmh are required to wear helmets and allowed to use radwegs? The reason i ask is that local people around here tend not to wear helmets and ride on the radweg. I suspect that helmets must be worn even though some of the rollerbladers and most of the cyclists would overtake one of these things and that they're not allowed to use the radwegs either.

Anyone know what's what?

i am not 100% sure but i think they are allowed to use the Radwege unless there is a sign fordidding them. Not sure about helmets though.

ok just checked. The law has been changed a couple of times. From about the 70's to the 90's they were forced to use the Radwege, from the 90's onwards they were forbidden from using them but:

If a bike path is not explicitly signposted as such with a blue circled sign with the picture of a bike, they are allowed to use them.

round here a radweg has a special sign underneath the normal blue sign to show if mopeds can use them, which confused me at first as I thought it meant no mopeds, its a pic of a moped with the word "frei". Footpaths can also have a similar sign to show if bicycles can use it (pic of bicycle with the word frei). Means you can cycle on it but it is still a footpath so you can't cycle as wildly along it I think.

Pic at bottom of page has an example

Ok,thanks for that. It's just another one of those things that comes under cultural differences i suppose and can be a little confusing.
