Yer close, young fella, damn close, so close in fact we might want you to work for MI12 and a half.

Don't tell Moonboot but there is an impeccably dressed baddy in there as well. Probably interested in world domination, the gouger.

am not sure I am able to release Parnell from his contract with us, maybe if the price was right though, but you'll have to wait til our Christmas rush is over if that's ok.

I'm thinkin guns , a British secret agent , bit of casino fluff , some girls who probably don't know me and some incredibly improbable stunts... am I warm at all ? Even luke-warm ?

Not even close. You forgot about the car chases. wink.gif

I saw the Movie in UK on Sunday and have to say it has a very un-Bond feel to it.
The story is very weak and I assume this was why it was never made in to a film at the beginning of the Bond saga. Is also quite odd as he starts the film without his 00 (Licence to Kill) status.
Daniel Craig does an OK job of being Bond but without a decent story line it is hard for him to really shine. He reminded me more of Jason Bourne than James Bond but I havent seen the Bourne films just read the books.

Well done on the spoiler for the start of the movie there Rus! rolleyes.gif

I think it had more to do with the fact that the makers did not have the rights to the novel till recently.

was'nt there a spoof james bond casino royale with david niven made in the 1960's i wonder how they got the rights

Then how did they have th rights to all of the other Fleming Novels?

Yes was more like Pink Panther than James Bond
TheDevilHimself
I guess the production house bought the film rights from Fleming.

QUOTE
When Harry Saltzman and Cubby Broccoli obtained the film rights from Fleming, the rights for CASINO ROYALE were not included in the deal. From 1962, Cubby and Harry produced the films for studio, United Artists (UA) and together changed the face of film-making.

The above is from this bond site.

I saw Casino Royale last weekend, and I enjoyed it. I like Daniel Craig as Bond. He's not too far off from Sean Connery, I think.
UpQuark
Fleming sold the rights to Casino Royale before he sold the rights to the other books. (I'm short on some details here, but that's the gist of it.) There was actually a TV adaptation of Casino Royale in the States, in which Bond was American. The spoofy film adaptation with David Niven and Woody Allen (yes, strictly speaking Woody Allen has appeared in a Bond film, though arguably not a canonical one) resulted from the original purchase of film rights from Fleming. Have we already covered why there were two films based on the plot of Thunderball?
Owain Glyndwr
Thunderball was Roger Moore and it was remade as "Never Say Never Again" with Sean Coonery playing his last ever Bond film after Moore had already played five or six films. Is that right?

Thunderball was also Connery. (trying to beat Exile with the answer)

Edit: Thunderball was originally conceived as a film which was plotted by Fleming and two other guys (their names escape me). The project never got off the ground, but Fleming recycled quite a bit of the plot for the novel Thunderball. Once Bond became big, the other guys wanted a piece of the action and sued for a cut of the film rights. Litigation dragged on for years and in the end they were awarded the right to make a film based on that plot, if they wanted. And so they did. Thunderball and Never Say Never Again are basically the same film, with the same Bond. Note that Largo's boat in Thunderball is called the Disco Volante, and in NSNA, it's renamed the Flying Saucer.

Nice twist man , I can tell u read , um, books and stuff.

...bet you're reading this and are like "dude! it feels like I've known you since , like , the last episode of Mash!"
Exile
Doh! But Connery had bought the rights to the Thunderball script, so could do Never Say Never Again.
Edit: See Mr. UpQuark's post above.

Saw it last night - Daniel Craig better than expected, Eva Green not so good and the plot a bit dull.
georgiagirl
Saw it last night too. Absolutely loved it.

Daniel Craig is positively smouldering - no, make that fully combustible - and a great actor to boot. As vociferously as I initially protested his casting, I must say that he was an excellent choice.

Exotic locales, thrilling action sequences, romance - and yeah, Eva Green didn't do a whole lot for me either, but who the hell is looking at her when you've got Bond's 'perfectly formed ass'?

Terrific, pulse-pounding fun. My heart hasn't raced like that in years.
hams
I will say that he was alot meaner, and tougher than previous Bonds (which suited him down to the ground), but also looks like he's been on steroids for a protracted period of time.

As GG said, beautiful locations.
georgiagirl
Normally I don't get into that beefcakey look, but as you said, it suited him. Or at least, it suited me.

And what I loved about Craig's Bond is that although he is a bit rougher (around the edges and every place else) than previous Bonds, he also managed to come across as more vulnerable, less shallow and altogether more human. He was much darker and more dangerous too.

Let me put it this way - if I were to meet either Daniel Craig or Pierce Brosnan in an alleyway, I know who I'd be more afraid of. And more turned on by.

@georgiagirl
"He was about six feet tall, slim and fit-looking. The eyes in the lean, slightly tanned face were a very clear gray-blue and as they observed the men they were cold and watchful. The narrowed watchful eyes gave his good looks the dangerous, almost cruel quality that had frightened me when I first set eyes on him…
Ian Fleming´s description of Mr. Bond in “The spy who loves me.
Sounds quite adequate. rolleyes.gif

Saw this last night and enjoyed it very much. The characters are more human and the plot (if a little thin) then perhaps more in line with the everyday tasks of a secret agent (not that I'm in any real position to judge that) foiling international crime rather than saving us all from anhiliation every day (or at least every Bond film).

They could have done a better job making the stunt man look like Bond (or vice versa), and although the fight scenes were more realistic than previous Bond films, they still went a bit too far IMO.

Since Connery quit, every Bond up until now has appeared, well sort of plastic.

saw this last night...was ace!
thought Daniel Craig, although not classically handsome, brought a certain suave-ness & moodiness to the role. and he looks rather good in tight swimming trunks too ph34r.gif
my boyfriend (a self-confessed Bond-geek) thought it was one of the best Bond movies ever!
oo some nice motors in the film too, shame some of em get wrecked!
DDBug
Do you think a 6 year old could watch it? Darn, I want to go see it, but hate to go without the boys. And I have a sneaking suspicion it might be a bit too much for the little one.
mothbola
Seeing as the rating is a 12, I would hope that you wouldn't even be able to get the 6 year old in.
Expat Mat
Off to see it tonight. Grindel is actually showing this film in English which is great. Sounds good by most of the posts here. If a real Bond geek likes it, then I'll like it too. biggrin.gif

Saw it last night, not sure what to make of it really. It started off good but began to drag out towards the end. Thought the plot was a bit weak but I was impressed with Daniel Craig. The product placements were a bit OTT at times I thought and I found it a little distracting. Really needed a stronger plot and an appearance by Q. Something was not quiet right about the interaction between Bond and M, can't put my finger on what it was. Not the typical Bond film but enjoyable. Would give it a 7 out of 10!

I was walking by the ARRI Kino 2 nights ago and I noticed that they had a f%$king amazing looking Aston Martin parked in the foyer, quite like this one...

So I had to have a gawk for awhile, and thought to myself that even though it's just a gimmick - it's a nice gimmick. But as I turned around to walk away, it dawned on me that I was surrounded by Aston Martins! I counted 9 in total, identical to the one pictured. Fuukin' amazing!

Saw Bond last night. Haven't enjoyed a Bond film as much since I've been a kid! Go see it! One criticism would be that no man alive would have flipped that car to avoid hitting girl no.2. Pretend she was a speed bump and keep driving.
Raffles
Sounds a bit like me too ... did it say around 68 years old too.?
shiney
saw it a few days ago. the opening sequence is a bit exagerrated. how come neither of them broke any legs/twisted any ankles. rest of the film's good though, the bad guys are really bad. missed Q tho why wasn't he in it, & no Miss MoneyPenny either! scandalous mad.gif
Keydeck
Saw this tonight and I have nothing but good things to say about it. This is the first time the movies have been close to the books. I hope it's the beginning of many more to come. Respect to Mr. Craig, may his bollocks be pummelled forever more.
3 Lions
I've heard over and over that the plot is weak...bollocks!!! The plot is not weak, the plot isnt meant to be anything except introduce us to the new James Bond. He's not here to save the world and he's not here to talk to moneypenny about sexual insinuations or Q on whats the latest gadget he has that he's made from a fountain pen.

The film brings us for the first time a 007 that is new to his job and Daniel Craig plays it brilliantly. there is no way that Pierce Brosnan could have done this role.

I will say this though as a warning, I feel that this movie has set a very high bar for the next one, so good luck with that. If its anything like this one, then it will be good.

For me the right amount of action, suspense, comdey and down right good entertainment.

Daniel Craig, maybe, just maybe the best Bond that will ever grace our screens...probably?.
bern
I really liked this movie. I think Daniel Craig did a fantastic job as Bond (and oh my stars! Yum) Anyway... I like the fact that they made him a rookie and fallable. I liked that you could take him more seriously than other Bonds in the past. This movie was a little more raw and insightful into the things that made Bond who he is. I loved it. The only down side was the tragic demise of such a beautiful Aston Martin...almost made me cry it did.

In one afternoon's shooting, three Aston Martin DBS cars valued at $300,000 each were destroyed for the car roll sequence.
QUOTE
The barrel roll stunt in the Aston Martin DBS broke the world record for the most barrel rolls assisted by a cannon. Originally, the racing specifications of the DBS meant that a standard ramp would not be sufficient to get the car to roll, so the special effects team were called in to install a air-powered cannon behind the drivers seat. This allowed the car to complete seven full rolls.

Hah...funny. 3 Lions and I were talking about how many times they had to do that scene. He said once...I said more (umpteenthousand, methinks). I guess the truth lies somewhere in between. Shame though. Such beautiful cars.

edit: you're always right, punk.

i liked some bits but others were just rubbish especially after the bad guy got killed, why continue a cheesy romantic story which wasn't convincing imo. so i think it is an okay movie but if the agents name wasn't James Bond, then i am convinced it would not impress many people. i liked the humour and seeing jb in a ford or whatever it was, was just funny.
alimess
anyone fancy going to the bond this afternoon at Mathäser ?
Vanman
Saw Casino Royale today. I thought it was excellent. Way better that any of the Pierce Brosnan movies.
Timmeh
Very average IMO, wouldn't recommend it
Keydeck
Timmeh in "Not having something good to say about something" shocker! ohmy.gif
Showem
I enjoyed it a lot. I agree there was a bit of dull bit there near the end, before the final action sequence. But all in all, a great film for a new Bond. Remembering the first offerings of Tim Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig did a great job.

Still don't think he's particularly good-looking, but nice hot bod!
Toronto
saw the movie over the weekend...and...well, thought im a big bond fan. this was...eh...it was okay. not sure if i liked it. I felt like there were to many obvious product placements, ie. Virgin Airlines, the Ford Mondeo, the VAIO, the sony ericsson, and the whole bit about his Omega watch. It felt like a really long commercial.

The thing that pissed me off was that Bond films are suppose to be stylish, and yet the bad dude invites all the rich people to get dressed up in Montenegro to play Texas holdem? Its so common...at least play a game of 5 card poker! Tailored dinner jackets and Cavalli gowns to play Texas Holdem? Seems wrong.

The DB5 and Daniel Craig get the best reviews. Not sure what i liked more the car or his body. Him in that torture scene, and the two beach scenes...mmmmmmmmmm... Sean Connery is the best Bond but Daniel Craig has the best Bond body...
Showem
Toronto, in the book they play Baccarat, but they modernized it. I for one appreciated it, as I know how Texas Hold'em is played, but have no clue about Baccarat. Probably most of the audience would have been similar to me.

As for product placement, as someone said earlier, that's hardly anything new in a Bond film.

I think the product placement was less advertisment and more an introduction to how the items became "Bond". The tuxedo, for instance, is a Bond trademark as are the Omega watches, the martinis, the car, etc. This movie introduced them. I thought it was kinda cool. As for the Ford Mondeo, I saw that more as irony than an advertisement. Bond is known for having sweet cars and to show him driving a Ford for once made him very real and at the same time, hilariously funny. Going from an Aston Martin to a Ford??

Anyway, that's my take.
planetmoni
the more i think/talk about the film, the less i like it. sad.gif

does this renew your interest in the film hon?
