Normally when you find a special offer like this it only takes a few minutes on google to find out about the ins and outs of the model, at least enough to get a feeling for whether it's a bargain or a turkey. In this case, nothing, not even for similar models. All I could find out was that the model is from 2004. Oh, and I downloaded the instruction manual, but that doesn't really help me make a consumer decision.

Here's the product page at Pro-Markt.

Would I be making a terrible mistake? ph34r.gif

End of line model from a decent manufacturer. 25% under list price which is about right. No digital tuner, and not HD-ready. If this doesn't bother you then it's a good deal.

Well, I got a 79cm almost flat screen for free so yeah, this is too much money for a two year old model.

Have you got a spare one that I can have?

Thanks for taking a look. It seems daft to spend EUR400+ on a standard TV when I can get an (albeit not quite up to date) LCD-TV for this much. At the end of the day, I've got the Widerrufsrecht to cover my back if it turns out to be rubbish in some capacity ...

Only if you order it online...

Which I just did.
Oh, the joy of online impulse purchasing armed with credit card and bottle of Augustiner.

Bad move. Terrible mistake. Old technology. Out-of-date. Glad I didn't do that...

@mj davey - This is what YL6 wrote, (I took his second post as a joke) which is basically what I had been thinking, a good deal if you don't need the very newest features. As to the link - the cheapest TV they have at 30" or greater costs EUR1000. And there doesn't seem much point in getting one shipped from the UK.
YorkshireLad6
And of course, if mj davey is buying his TVs from UK mail order services, notwithstanding generally higher prices, higher VAT, currency exchange costs and additional shipping charges, then they will have limited function here as many/most are not compatible in one way or the other with the German system.
mj davey
but then i wasn't suggesting you buy there to deliver/bring here. merely that perhaps a bit more research and you might have found a 'better deal'. But its your money, your life and your TV so if your happy - great.

@yl6 - ? i was merely supporting your opinion. What good would buying a DE TV here be for me?

Anyway, to finish the story: I now have the TV and it's wicked. To be honest, I don't really know the criteria for judging how good an LCD-TV is, but I can't find anything I don't like about it. Now I just have to flog my old TV and my rarely-used projector and I should just about break even ... smile.gif

Now I know why you are bailing on the grillfest! You want to stay in and watch your new TV.

Real people just don't measure up.

Have you considered the offer on www.netonnet.de. There are some cheap brands, but considering their price, it might be worth checking them out.
