i thought i'd start a new topic for summer 2006 tennis. i'm not organizing anything cause i am gone too much, but i know some old threads pointed to peeps who played on thursday's, etc. i plan to be in munich at least one week a month in summer, so i would love the tennis then beergarten thing suggested last summer.

(preferably, first tennis, then beergarten).
also, thejarvii posted something about "rating" yourself awhile back so peeps can better match themselves up. i did a google and came across this:
UTSA -- Rate Yourself in Tennisi'll start with myself: i'd say i'm a 3.0 and improving. i haven't played doubles since high school & that was more than 10 years ago

i also really just enjoy hitting the ball around & hate the competitive aspect (unless watching agassi -- see, i confess how old i am!).
perhaps Im a bit slow on this holiday...but I can't seem to find that self rating on the USTA site - can you post the direct link?
I would be interested in playing - its been many years but I like tennis and need the exercise.

Hi, I'd like to play any time! On Saturday's I have a free place to play near
Starnberg. Anyone?
I'd like to think I'm about a 3.5, but I'm more like a 3.0.
about a decade ago I would be a 3.0-3.5 - but today Im closer to a 2.0 - its been a while since I even held a raquet.
I can't play this weekend (maybe in the morining?) - but would like to get a regular game going during the week...

I think I am around 3.5. Had a hit at
Olympic Park last night, but only for half an hour as they close at 8pm.
Was thinking of having a hit tomorrow afternoon or on the weekend some time if anyone is keen.
I'm not overly serious on the tennis court, but I do like to have a good match and get some nice rallies going.
PM me if you are interested.
Boys I am a female, but can hit the ball!

Hi there, I'd love to play - incidentally, I am also female. I can play anytime Saturday, or Sunday morning (I think that'd be best). Saschakurz, I tried to PM you, but for some reason it wasn't working.

Hi, I would like to play too. I live out near Freising, but I have a pretty flexible schedule so I could play most anytime. I haven't played much in the last few years, but I guess I would rate myself at 2.5.

I used to play pretty regularly till about one and a half yrs back, but had to stop due to lack of time. But would love to start playing again. Currently would rate myself somewhere around 2.5 to 3.
I can play on the weekends, as well on weekday evenings ( except Wednesdays).

I have a quick tennis question...
I am currently using a cheap $20 Wilson racquet I got at Walmart in the states and am considering getting a new, better racquet but was wondering how much difference an 80-100€ racquet would actually make at my level. I'd rate myself a 2.5. I mean, does it get to a point where cheapo racquets start to limit improvement? Will I actually notice a difference with a better racquet?
Thanks!

better racquets allow you to play a much more consistent game...i believe. you can get better power and placement due to the set up of the strings and the type of material used in the frame. I mean you don't have to go and spend a bucket load, but you would definately notice the difference between a 150€ racquet and a 29€ racquet.
if you are keen to play a lot then I would go out and buy a new racquet.

ok then I'll prolly get a new racquet as soona s I can afford it. It would be a decent investment since usually play atleast 3 times a week. I was just worried that I'd spend 150€ and not even notice a difference.

i think i spent €85 last summer on my wilson b/c i simply didn't have a raquet in d-land.
Hertie or
Karstadt had a sale going on, so i think i saved 20%.
but i also don't think just by playing 3x a week, you will improve your game. at your intermediate level (me too, i'm a 3.0-3.5), only some lessons will help you get better. after a few lessons, then a new racquet you will be a better woman. but if you have the cash, then why not. splurge. we're capitalist consumers.

May 8 2006, 2:27 pm
Used to be a 4.0-4.5, these days I'ld rate myself 3.5-4.0. Can't play right now anyhow...

@erdbeere: a quality racket will definitly improve your skills... seen magic happen after people got themself a decent racket. At your level I wouldn't be going for one of these widebody rackets, which the salesman most likely will try to sell you, but for a midprice tournament racket (and Elfenstar is right, lessons are the clou).

yea i'd love to take a few lessons..problem is i am broke... no job = no money.

Now we know quite a people who play tennis here and at what level do they play etc etc.
So anyone interested in actually meeting up for some knocks or perhaps a set or two. As I wrote earlier, I can play on Weekday evenings ( except Wednesdays) and weekends.
Any suggestions on any clubs with tennis courts in Schwabing?

I'ld be interested, but I'm injured right now and can't play for a few weeks (maybe even months...

We could try Thursday evening at the
Olympic Park tennis courts ?
They close at 8pm, so maybe if we met at 6.30pm ?
TheDevilHimself
May 9 2006, 3:48 pm
That sounds pretty good. But I think it will be a good idea to call them up first and check for the availibility of the courts ! Or does that place always have a few empty courts?

Normally you can reserve the courts even
online, but the reservations page doesn't work at the moment due to some software updates.

Hi I´d be intrested in playing a wee bit of Tennis too...I haven´t really played properly for a few years but I used to do some curcuits back home in Oz. Forehands not bad at all but my serve and backhand are a bit rusty!
Hi,
I started playing tennis last summer and would really love to continue playing at least once per week.
I played I guess 2-3 times oer week for a 6 months or so.
Anybody out there interested in a regular game or even the odd game?
I couldn't find the USA rating systems on the site mentioned in previous posts.
The club I played in had a ranking system of colours I think 7 colours. I think something like this.
White (Never Played Before)
Yellow
Green < I was here...
Brown
Blue
Pink
Black (Nationally Ranked)
Cheers,
Jono

I'm new to Munich and love tennis, really miss not playing like in England. Anybody up for a game, maybe followed by a beergarden session in the West Munich area?
On the scale I'd give myself a 3 - 3.5
