I am looking to stay a week in Vienna in July this year and am wanting to stay in a hotel, not too expensive though.
Any reccomendations?

Do a search (top right-hand corner). You'll find some hotel suggestions, esp. in the thread "A weekend in Vienna".

I always stay at the Hotel Atlanta on Wahringerstr.

Very friendly staff, reasonable prices and a great bar (Shooters) downstairs. It's within easy walking distance of the centre. Takes about 7 minutes or so to get up to Schottentor (just past Charlie P's) and then you have a nice stroll either through to the centre, around the ring or down towards the Donau canal. If the Heurige at Grinzing are your thing then the tram goes from very close to the hotel. "Not too expensive" is a very relative term. You can of course find cheaper hotels, but this is always my residence of choice.

thanks for the tips,
anyone else been to Vienna and can recommend any cheap hotels / youth hostels?

We visited Vienna a couple of years ago, but stayed out of town in the wine-growing regions. Although we found a relatively cheap place to stay, the cost of transport into town was extremely expensive for even the cheapest day ticket on the train.

I would definitely recommend a hotel IN town if you can find one to suit your pocket.

Stayed at this hotel in Vienna this weekend and it was absolutely fabulous. I love their service philosophy as all the staff were warm, attentive, and hospitable. They aimed to please. The interior is beautiful and my suite was very nice. You get a warm and cozy feeling staying at this place. It's close to the major sites in the inner ring. You can see some pics of the rooms on the link below.
