Learning the Lingo : Word of the day email?

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > Themes > Miscellaneous

A couple of colleageus at work get an email every day from a language school which gives them a little snippet of English - sometimes it is an idiom, a piece of grammar, some vocab etc.

Does anyone know of anything similar for people learning or trying to improve their German?

What I am after is something I can print out and spend 10 minutes on the train home having a read of, and hopefully picking up some new tricks.

I have had a quick google, but the only thing I could find was on http://german.about.com/library/blworttag.htm but it looks a bit basic.

Anyone know any good sources?

I signed up with One-Word-A-Day a while back. It's supposed to be for people learning English, but obviously you can apply it the other way around as well.

Only gripe is that of late the words it has been sending through have been stuff that I could never see myself using.

Some of it is useful though and you can always just ignore the e-mail if you wish.

Today's was Pull strings

GERMAN TRANSLATION :

to pull strings - Beziehungen spielen lassen
to pull the strings - die Drähte ziehen; die Fäden in der Hand halten
