I have not been here long (Stuttgart) and have a visitor coming in from the UK who has expressed an interest in hiking in the area for a day.
Anybody got any good suggestions ?

Been a few years, but I'd suggest a walk though Esslingen. Gorgeous old town, and then talk a walk through the vineyards. Not challenging in terms of mountains but very pretty

What type of "hiking"? Walking or real hiking?

If by hiking you mean REAL country type stuff, get on the tube to the endhaltestelle in Botnang and there are enough woods there to keep you occupied all day. Some of it steep. Up to Schloss Solitude, beyond to Bärensee (a walk in itself) and you coud eventually walk all the way to Leonberg... And plenty of wildlife (which I can vouch for, a wild boar ran into my car near Schloss Solitude)

Depends how much time you want to spend in them there woods! The first time I did it, it was a bit like "Blair Witch Project".

Alternatively, hike to the Frühlingsfest with us on Saturday biggrin.gif

I think the plan is "real" walking so the Schloss Solitude walk sounds like it will fit the bill.
Then go to the Frühlingsfest in the evening - maybe we can meet you there is you are planning to stay that long ?

hi Ninor

I can confidentally predict that we will be there well until kicking out time which is after 11! If you're going in the woods can I suggest you pick up a map from the tourist information. Even with one it's very easy to get lost! See you in the pub later if you're out
