I was in Stuttgart last Thursday for the Celtic v Stuggart (UEFA) game. Only 5000 tickets were available but 15000 fans turned up. Most congregated in the town square and what an amazing sight to see. Good humour was abundant and most were well behaved. Of course there were the odd "numpties", climbing statues and the like but the police treated them fairly and with respect. It's not often I find myself praising the police of any nation but on this occasion they deserved it. They handled situations very sensitively and joined in with the fun.
There was not one bottle of beer left on the shop shelves by midday and the game didn't kick off until 1930hrs. I found myself translating for the fans as even the Germans who could speak English, couldn't quite understand,
"awe cummoan misses, ra bhoys ure thirsty, git us a beer will ye". I was chuffed to bits when they kept saying, " your German's pure dead brilliant".
Of course it's anything but, but for a day, someone thought it was.

a collegue of mine is a bit VfB fan and went to both games of course, meaning yes he was in Glasgow and said it's the best soccer experience he's ever had, that even while in Glasgow, the people all wished them well and good luck. so i suppose this hospitality had to be reciprocated.
