I've just moved into Wittelsbacher Allee and won't have a washing machine for at least another week, so need to wash my clothes somewhere. Any idea where I can find a laundromat nearby, preferably within walking distance, but I'm prepared to take a tram rather than have stinky clothes! smile.gif

There is a waschsalon on the Seckbacker Landstr, U4 underground, last stop. Take the exit towards the back of the train.

Laundromats In Frankfurt

If for some reason that page doesn't open go to gelbeseiten.de and do a search for waschsalon and frankfurt

Wow. Only five in all of Frankfurt?

Thanks for the help. I think I've found one that's only about 20 minutes walk and tram ride away.

I'm surprised there's that many, there is something about laundromats that are ungerman!! They are really hard to find. Only in the big cities
Jay
I remember seeing one halfway up on Sandweg which is a parallel street to Wittelsbacher Allee (although depends on which end of the Allee you are)
Jay
Googling I found this
http://www.cylex-branchenbuch-frankfurt.de...C4SCHEREIEN.htm

WÄSCHEREI IM SANDWEG
SANDWEG 60
60316 FRANKFURT
DEUTSCHLAND

Tel. (069) 437721

And if you search on 'wäscherei' on the Gelbe Seiten page you find 21 in FFM.
(although the above is not listed.)

Yes Sandweg is the closest I would say. Mind you it gets really packed there on a Saturday.

There is also one on Freiligarthstr. if you live at the top end of Wittelsbachallee but as far as I know they only do service washes.

Indeed. If you're at the top end (near Deutsche Post) the best bet is probably to get the 12 tram towards Schwanheim, and get off a couple of stops later at Rohrbachstr. / Friedberger Landstrasse. From there head directly over the junction (in the direction the tram was heading), and it's on your left. All in all a 10 minute trip and the easiest way to go if you've got a big bag of laundry!

I am a little confused now! Where is the Deutsche Post on Sandweg? And the number 12 tram? wacko.gif

Or are you talking about Saalburgallee?

The closest laundrette to Wittelsbacballee has to be the one on Sandweg surely? Friedberger landstr./Rohrbachstr. is a bit of a trek with washing.

I meant the Deutsche Post on Saalburgalee. The tram stop is Saalburg / Wittelsbacherallee, between Eissporthalle and Bornheim Mitte. Easier to get the tram than trek to the bottom of Sandweg. If you live at the Saalburgallee end of Wittelsbacherallee that is.

Or there's the handwash everything in the bath option I suppose.
Jay
Tram 14 is the quickest to get to Sandweg 60 according to http://www.rmv.de
(a good site with route maps on how to get to your destination by foot from your nearest station)

Stop Waldschmidtstr, and then a 5 minute walk.

It all boils down to sone envoirnment law that was introduced back in the '80s.
Basically, as it goes with 99% of German laws, it was introduced as an effort that Laundrettes -please excuse the pun- clean up their act on the amount of toxic waste they were ejecting into the sewage system.
The result was the closure of the vast majority of laundrettes, as the cost of becominging green was a wee bit too much.

German Umweltgott is to blame once more. Has his fingers everywhere.

Just to clarify:

Wascherei - is someone who does the laundry for you (generally), and it is expensive and takes a couple of days.

Waschsalon - are laundrymat...

Thanks for the info! So is that one on Sandweg a service wash place or a do it yourself job? Any idea when it closes?
Purple Muffin
It is a do it yourself place so take loads of change biggrin.gif

It is open until either 22:00 or 23:00 I cannot remember now. It might close earlier on a Saturday not 100% sure.

Thanks! You've all been a great help. I was beginning to think I might have to start recycling my dirty clothes or washing them in the sink smile.gif.

Unfortunately it seems to have shut down sad.gif.

Unfortunately it seems to have shut down .

Yes I rang the number for the Wascherei...and it does not exist.
But I am sure I have seen one on Sandweg. I will take a walk on Sandweg tonight before I go home.

Sorry I hope you did not have to carry a heavy load of washing.
antistar
No, don't worry smile.gif. Someone I know who lives close by checked it out for me.
Jay
Well it is on Sandweg 41 or 43...not 60.

I walked passed it anyway after a few beers last night at about 11pm and it is open from 6 till 23:00. I did see someone in there just packing up his clothes as I walked past. cool.gif
