I'm not a Brit, but I happened across this forum, so maybe someone can help me out. I will be travelling to Frankfurt for 3 months starting this Saturday. I have an apartment lined up, but unfortunately, it seems as if high-speed internet access is not a common thing, and I have no idea what I need to do to get cable or DSL hooked up or what my options are. I've browsed around and it looks like T-Online is what is good, but I'm concerned about how long it takes to get installation, and the fact that I will have to get a phone line through Deutsch Telekom registered.
Are there any simpler options such as just getting cable internet where installation and setup can be quickly done and as soon as possible? I know the apartment is wired for cable, but I don't know through whom, or what I need to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks!

Oh, and I'm an English speaker...unfortunately I took German many many years ago in High School. It's amazing what you can forget in 11 short years! So hopefully if someone has a suggestion, it would be preferable if whatever company it is would help out english speakers.

You could set up a phone line and DSL in your name but if your only here for a short time I wouldn't bother as the setup costs will kill you. You could ask the Landlord to install it and you pay extra, barring that I would look for a hotspot or hope that someone around you has an unsecured wifi set up.

Yeah, and another reason I wouldn't want DSL is that I've heard it takes at least a week to even get the T-Online package in the mail.
Is cable internet a possible option?

Yes
iesyBut I do not know anything about installation etc.
Problem with T-online is the year contract you are bound to.

I think that is also true for the iesy Cable Internet deal, 12 month minimum contract.
Probably because it is just not profitable for them to provide you connection (with free cable internet modem, etc.) for just 3 months.
But it might be worthwhile speaking to them directly on 01803 – 88 88 35.
That's the iesy internet helpline. I know on the other helpline for cable TV there are English speakers available. If I remember correctly the recorded message switches to English instructing you how to contact an English speaker.

I have IESY internet in my apartment, it's great. it took a week to arrange an installation date, the technician only needed 20min to put a new socket in the existing cable connection and I was online 15min later!
only 20 EUR per month for unlimited broadband, if your existing cable connection is included in your rent.
I think the notice period for termination is 3 months, it's no longer than that, could maybe be less..
would recommend though!

Whats with the 12 months minimum contract milarky?
After 3 months, de-register with the authorities.. send a copy of your De-registration papers to T-Kom and that is sufficient reason to cancell your contract.

You know, for only 20 Euros a month, I'm perfectly willing to pay 240 Euros for the 1 year contract just for the 3 months of internet if just for the convenience of not having to wait too long to get installation and not having to deal with registering a phone line.
I guess I will contact iesy when I get there and speak to the people I'm working with in Frankfurt to get their opinions as well.
Thanks.
