Thursday night drinks in Frankfurt

Hi everyone,

I have been meaning to post this for a while but have not got round to it!

There are three of us from the Britboard who meet up for drinks every Thursday. We have been meeting in MacGowans on the Zeil but were thinking of changing to somewhere else - we are reasonably flexible.

We usually meet at about 21:00 so just PM me if you fancy coming along tonight. If you cannot get online later then leave me a number and I can call/text further details!

Since we have had a few definites for the meet on 2nd July I will look into locations and post suggestions soon!

Macgowans on the Zeil has the maddest barman in Europe! hes crazy-I was in last week and hes mad.

He almost ruined my chances with the ADAC guy!!! Mind you have given hin the boot since then the ADAC guy I mean not the barman!!!

madder than a hatter- I got him on a good day and have never seen anything like it-He was abusing the whole place i minute dancing on the bar the next.

I asked for a pint of what he was drinking but to no avail!

It must be a secret concotion and probably very expensive

Well I have just learned that the MAcGowans in Bornheim (which will probably be renamed soon as it has been sold) does a pub quiz in a Thursday night would we be interesting in a Britboard team???

Also the barman is not as mad honest!!!

i'm new to frankfurt - and a friend tells me that there is a regular meet-up for british people at mcgowan's on zeil? is this correct...and can anyone just turn up?

We do have a regular meet up yes and you are more than welcome!

We do not always go to MacGowans though we decided to start going for a bit of variation.

Tonight we are going to O Reillys and then on to the Gallerie for a bit of dancing.

We are meeting in there at 7pm if you would like to join us you are more than welcome.

There will be a few Britboarders meeting up at the MacGowans Zeil on Thursday at about 8ish I suppose. Everybody is welcome to join us.

We can move onto a nicer drinking establishment once everybody is there if people would prefer. We have only chosen MacGowans as it is central and reasonably easy to find. Oh and also all pints 3 Euro

as you noticed, I didn't make it to the beer fest in Offenbach last week end but reading through your messages, it sounded like you had an interesting time.

Will be coming along tomorrow night. Been to Mc Gowans a few times already so it shouldn't be difficult to miss each other. Going to bring my hubby with me, Pete and another friend of ours is going to join us later (maybe, sometimes not very reliable )

ps we are Britboard virgins, so be kind to us tomorrow night

Hi Lisa,

KiBa ist short for Kirsch Banane and is a mixture of cherry and banana juice. Kes and I usually it at MacGowans!

The only real regulars are myself, Rebecca (imhere4beer) and Kes but sometimes more come along. We have not been going to MacGowans recently as there was no interest from other Britboarders.

But it looks like we have got a crowd for tonight and don't worry you won't be the only Britboard newcomers!

@ Kes wonder if they have finally had a delivery of straws yet ?

Hi - couldn't make the curry night a couple of weeks ago and as such am yet to take part in these (v regular given there was one last w'end) meet ups.

I'm guessing there's only on McGowens? (on Berger Str)??

Will be v happy to join - assuming no one mids - (especially as I can also watch the test match highlights (as the barman was good enough to put in on before). week).

I'd love a couple of pints of Guinness this evening but 420kms is a bit too far to drive for a pint.

Mind you, I do miss wandering in there on Saturday afternoons and being abused by Paddy Kelpie when he comes in steaming drunk from the night before and tries to pour me a pint (Is he still managing the place or has he finally been sacked?).

I don't think I've ever been in there when he hasn't caused an incident. He's a great bloke when you catch him sober though... but that doesn't happen too often.

I was going to send an IM but then decided to post the topic so other members could read too. I was wondering if there was still a weekly meet-up every Thursday in Frankfurt? I used to have something else scheduled for Thursday nights but that has now changed so I might be interested in going every so often. If so, where and when do you meet?

Yes we still go somewhere most Thursdays!!!

I stopped posting it as didn't think that many people were interested!!

I might be interested in joining in occasionally but not for anything heavy or late (guess who is getting old?) - is there a place and time that you meet and people can just pop down if they fancy it or is it something more organised?

I would also be interested in coming along sometime on a Thursday. I always seem to be away from Frankfurt or working when there are special meet-ups planned

Well this Thursday we are all going to Rebecca's leaving party and you are all more than welcome to come along more the merrier.

Maybe then we could go back to a regular place and time on a Thursday because at the moment we just decide last minute what to do!!! Mind the Nachtbar is almost always frequented so this could be a good place as it is quiet in there early on!

Now we have all had a chance to recover from the weekend it is time start thinking about doing it all again!

The venue for this week’s Thursday night meet-up is Odeon. For those of you who don’t know Odeon it is the club that looks like an old pavilion/palace at the bottom of the Berger Strasse/Friedberger Anlage in the park between the Chinese Garden and the top of the Zeil (not far from Macgowans pub).

On Thursdays they have the now famous student nights.. It is only 5 EUR to get in (3 EUR for anyone who still holds a dodgy student card! J) and it’s happy hour till midnight – half price on all drinks! They play a good mixture of music, with party hits alongside modern dance tunes and Michael Jackson so something for everyone. At midnight they also lay on a very good free buffet upstairs.

The plan is to meet from 8.30pm onwards in O-Ton at the bottom of Bergerstr. (U4 stop Merianplatz), we will then make our way down to Odeon later on.

I would say ask either myself or Phil for further details but the post says it all really!

Well you know me I never stay out all night I tend to leave them talking sh1t either in the Nachtbar or Sachsenhausen until all hours. I for one will be going home at a sensible time on a school night
