Stuttgart Spring Festival

hello everybody!

I'd suggested with a couple of people already that the Frühlingfest would be a good time for a Stuttgart get together. As I'm now trying to book my Easter hols looks like the time is here! So I'm just wondering who's interested and what dates would suit ??

For those that don't know it's a similar festival to the Oktober fest with a carnival/fairground type thing + beer halls, music, imaginative German food etc.. it starts Easter weekend and runs for 3 weeks. We could either do an afternoon into evening or just an evening get together??

Inital suggestion would be Saturday 22nd April ( Saturday after Easter weekend )?

Would be nice to get some visitors from outside Stuttgart hint hint !!

sounds good, but have just checked the old diary and it looks like I have no free weekends till May (when did that happen ). Will get back up to Stutty at somepoint though, it's been ages...

That is the only weekend between now and June 10th where I will be in Frankfurt I am not sure how that happened either.

We have sort of arranged to go on a girlie night out but that could be changed. It is quite tempting

I'm planning to be back in UK then plus the weekend before - soz!!! If you plan a different weekend then count me in, I've always wanted to check out Stutters. Also plans may change so pls keep me in the loop. Hope your arms are better, what was wrong with them by the way???

@Drea well that's a start! Be cool if you can make it.. the Fest thing closes up around 11 but I know plenty of places where you can drink all night!

@Billy yes my arms are a little better thanks, but I'm taking holiday next week to let them rest. Just overworked arms a little with computer use + playing piano too much, hopefully not life threatening!

I ask myself why they even bother to take them down, as no sooner have they taken them down from the Volksfest, they put em up again for the Frühlingsfest...

I am up for that. I mentioned it to in france at the weekend and he would be tempted (following his success last time), but he's in the UK that weekend you mentioned.

I would be available anytime as far as I know tho.

Well I was planning on putting in an appearance - then I got my flight rota yesterday for April and any plans on having a private life went belly up!!

So I shall think of you all having a pissed up time, whilst I´m sitting in a hotel room in chuffing Sarajevo!! Had to look it up on the map first to find out where it is!!!

so jdee, it looks like its just me and you! Or are there any others? What are the dates of this spring festival? Are you coming to frankfurt on saturday, we can try and twist a few arms then

@Drea, there are a couple of others.. so fingers crossed! I'm sure we'll have a good time . Don't think I'll be there Saturday, wasn't really enough notice for me getting ready for my hols this weekend but please do twist some arms, it's 3 weeks so you never know what might happen...

Unfortunately, (or fortunately!) I'll be in the UK over that weekend. Shame, it would've been good fun. Ah well, if anybody else in or around Stutters wants to go at any other time, I'll be glad to accompany you.

@ number 10, thats a good idea to meet up in heidelberg. Hopefully if we ask billy very nicely he'll give us a lift!! But then again, it may be a better idea to get the train. Oh well, we'll figure it out nearer the time.

Hi Drea, Number 10. Yeah, no problem, glad to give you both a lift down to Stutters in My Julie. Are you planning to go down Friday night? Or Saturday and stay Saturday night? I haven't decided yet myself whether to stay Fri or Sat or both yet, prob decide later this week or beginning next.

Looks like its going to be fun. Not played in Stutters before, and it will be my first trip!!

We can meet at Stuttgart HBF at 3.30 and get up to the Wassen for around 4. This should give us enough time to sample the atmosphere and suss out which of the halls is most fun, grab a table etc..

Happy Easter everyone! Hope the Easter Bunny was kind to you this year, unfortunately the Bunny was rather too kind to me and I'll need to exercise a little more now to counter the effects!

I'm planning to come down on Friday night cos I'm meeting a group of people for a few drinkies at the Festival (where else?). Any Stuttgarters around on Friday night perhaps and fancy a drink or two? If the Festival finishes at 11pm, I'll be wandering back into town after.

On Sat morning I'll be checking out the VitaParc SchwabenQuellen, I hear its one of the best Saunas around Stuttgart, or checking out the shopping mile and castles, before meeting up at 3pm.

@Drea, @Number 10, will this fit with your plans? I suspect driving down on Friday earlyish (at 5pm) might kybosh the lift down, would it be easier to meet down there on Sat, and then give you a lift back up on Sunday? My mobile is working now so I'll PM you my number.

Great idea to meet up Friday evening - I am waiting for a friend to fly in (around 10pm) but will be drinking in the Stuttgart West area probably after then - either O'Reilleys, or Der Rote Capelle (Feuersee). Anybody else around and up for it ?

Just confirming that I'll definitely be there tomorrow. Is it a little late to suggest maybe meeting earlier, as I went to a beer festival in stuttgart last year and got there about 4ish and it was jammers.

ok folks, I think we are maybe cutting it a little close so how about we meet at 3 o'clock, will that affect anyone adversely ? I'd say if anyone actually wants to look around the fairground beforehand they are probably better to go up earlier and then meet us at the beer hall around 3.30, because we'll probably have to go straight in once we get there. bit of a pain but you know what the locals are like, they'll be there at 11 in the morning just to get the tables at the front.. if anyone else needs my moby just pm me

as regards where to meet.. in Stuttgart Hbf at the bottom of the long escalator thing that leads to the high street ( tourist information is at the top ) we'll be at the bottom.. it will make sense when you get there! Just call if you are late etc..

Have I missed anything? Could folks confirm the change in time is ok?

Update..

Thinking of reserving a table as this would help out Ninor who needs to come later on + covering our prosteriors just in case. The condition of this is that we have to spend at least E20 per person, which I think we can easily achieve. The questions are.. which hall.. is the good one Wasenwirt ?? Is there anyone else coming along that we don't know about as we need to give numbers?

Hi all

Change of plan for me, I'm not coming down Friday now but will be there on Saturday, staying over Saturday night. Planning to come down early on Sat and will meet at the Train Station as arranged.

I don't know which hall to book, as Buzz has advised me 1 is better but we don't know the name.. I think we will be ok, there will be a lot of Vfb fans there and they play at home to Eintracht tomorrow, 15.30 kick off so they should be leaving to go to the match when we arrive.. well thats the theory! So for ninor your best bet would be to get there just before 17.15 when the match ends

I managed to get a ticket for Eintracht v VFB tomorrow afternoon and only saw today again that there are some of you meeting up tomorrow afternoon at the Frühlingsfest etc. My train is supposed to go back after the game but I am up for coming straight to the Fest afterwards and getting the last train back to Frankfurt (or stay overnight, whatever). Would be cool to finally meet some of the Stuttgart britboarders etc etc!!

Just thought I'd say thanks to JDee for organising a fantastic time in Stutters! I for one really enjoyed my very first german beer festival (my throat is quite sore from all the singing) and I may even come down again in the next week or so to enjoy the fun fair properly, it was a lot bigger than I expected and its really good! We didn't spend enough time on the dodgems really!

Enjoyed meeting everyone too, good to place names with faces! Got some piccies to post, I'll have to figure out how to do this on the Board, but if everyone would like to PM me with their e-mail address, then I'll send you the originals on e-mail for your keepsake.

Thanks again, had a great time and what a way to start the festival season!

Well cheers to everyone for a cool time at the fest on saturday! I had a blast. I'll certainly be planning to make another sooner-rather-than-later visit down to stutters.

Was great that everyone turned out I have actually little idea of what happened after about the 1st hour and cannot remember leaving the pub or anything.. hope I at least attempthed to say cheerio to people..but I had a great time also especially the dodgems!
