The Presets, an electronic rock/indie (rocky-dance tune) duo from down under. The album Beam has been out for almost a year now but they just recently had their lives in Germany (unfortunately not Munich) .. most probably for fan of The Rapture, Klaxons, Digitalism myspace link
Once: Music from the Motion Picture Now I'm not one for musicals, but this might have changed my mind. Once: the official film website plays songs from the film and I'm starting to well up listening to them, absolutely gorgeous and a big thanks to me to the pal who lent me this. It's The Frames musical and the trailer made me sob too, I'm turning into a big old mushbucket who needs shooting really. Ah well. Great album though.

Like running? Hate treadmills? Nike+ Workout: Mastering the Treadmill with OK Go is probably the best treadmill interval programme I've ever used. The music is great, lead singer Damien Kulash's guidance about the intervals is motivating and fun, plus you can also have the tracks without commentary. Just when you feel like saying "Bugger this, I'm off" a huge song with the lyrics "It seemed like a good idea at the time..." comes on, you just can't stop after that (although laughing isn't good for your balance...). Get it off iTunes.
Two Gallants, Iron&Wine, Super Furry Animals, Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth), Broken Social Scene, Akron/Family, Turin Brakes, kate Nash and my current 2 favs
Okkervil River "The Stage names" and Bettye Lavette "Scene of the Crime"

Up until last night, Biffy Clyro were running away with my song of the year for "Semi-Mental". But only until last night. The new Turin Brakes album has all the sounds you know them for, some were disappointed with it, personally I think it is much closer to their rockier live sound. Then I heard "Other Side". It starts with a guitar straight out of Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here", then the simple lyrics full of beautiful, hopeful, sad words and pleasure in small things, lovely, lovely, lovely. The slide guitar reminds of "Together Alone"-era Crowded House or "Ray"-time Lemonheads, a big lush, layered sound, thanks to producer Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ray LaMontagne and Ryan Adams, amongst others). Just plain edible. Myspace/turinbrakes - Track 5 is the one
Yep, the Motorola Razr2 advert song. Doesn't make it any less fabulous.

I kinda prefer the old New Pornos albums to the new one, though it is a nice album all in all. Mass Romantic is probably still the best one of them though.
Birmingham's Untitled Musical Project have just released the most Rock and Roll quarter of an hour mini-album you'll hear this year. Like the bastard child of Mclusky and the Sex Pistols, they're brilliant live too.
The new Sons and Daughters album is pretty fecking good. But it's not out until the end of January

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam Battles - Mirrored
Both great and original, Peacebone and Tonto are respectively two of my favourite tracks this year, both start one way and lead you somewhere unexpected.

Get the only CD of "P"...released in 1995. Best CD I've bought in years. Has Johnny Depp, Gibby Haynes, Flea, Steve Jones...etc.

Both fantastic albums. Must say, 2007 was a great great year for new music.
2008, from what I've heard, is going to surpass it. The new Hot Chip album for instance, is brilliant. If anyone wants any recommendations, drop me a PM.
This is like going back in time. Not only the music but the way its presented. An album size cover (10 inch actually) with three cd's and one LP (my 13 year old daughter, "What's an LP Dad?")
Remember getting an album home, putting it on and reading the liner notes and looking at the pictures? My daughter sat with me all the way through CD 1 and said "That's a really cool way to listen to a record".
The music is retro but so superbly done. For those of you who don't know, Chris Rea had pancreatitis a few years ago (I had it last year and its so bloody painful). It changed his life in as much as he stopped touring so much and doing the CD's he thought would sell records and started to record the songs he loved. The last two box sets of CD's have been extraordinary value and really worth listening to. Enjoy.
More a heads up than a recommendation, The Charlatans are also offering their new album as a free download. Click.

When (Charlatans' manager) Alan McGee and I had this idea 18 months ago, we never imagined that it could be this successful," Burgess said in a statement.
"It’s a tribute to people’s belief in us and if we were in the shops, 20 years after The Charlatans started, we would be the number two most popular group in the country this week – going free was the best thing for us. Thanks to everyone that has downloaded the record."
McGee added, “I feel we are totally vindicated with the philosophy that if you go free and make a great record, you can exceed your dreams. No longer does music have to work in the traditional major-label dominated way.?
Nine Inch Nails presents Ghosts I - IV, a brand new 36 track instrumental collection available right now. Almost two hours of new music composed and recorded over an intense ten week period last fall, Ghosts I - IV sprawls Nine Inch Nails across a variety of new terrain.
Trent Reznor explains, "I've been considering and wanting to make this kind of record for years, but by its very nature it wouldn't have made sense until this point. This collection of music is the result of working from a very visual perspective - dressing imagined locations and scenarios with sound and texture; a soundtrack for daydreams. I'm very pleased with the result and the ability to present it directly to you without interference. I hope you enjoy the first four volumes of Ghosts."
You can download the first 9 tracks for free here or $5 for all 36 tracks.

I love NIN, but find Ghosts to be boring as all hell, impressively so.
Nerf Herder - IV ...just came out...good stuff.
Also, Roger Waters - The dark side of the moon live in Chile... has been sounding great lately...

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular. I keep trying to listen to something else but I've been coming back to this album every day for a good few weeks now...thought I'd share it...
Ah! I just had my memory jogged a few minutes ago. One of my favorite albums in my collection is Killing Joke's Night Time from 1985;
perhaps one of the greatest '80s albums of all and certainly KJ's best. It was an international hit when released and tracks like "Kings and Queens", "Eighties", "Darkness Before Dawn" and the album's title track are just mindblowing. A highly recommended album for collectors of '80s punk & new wave.
Here's my favorite track from the album:

Last Train to Lhasa by Banco de Gaia Parallel Life by the Starseeds. Be good to your ears. Check em out
I must admit I really liked the film. Simple and nice. However I've listened to the soundtrack a couple of times, before and after watching the film. It's got some nice songs on it but most of it for me was nothing special.

Just back from my hols on the ranch. Here are my favourite cowboy vibes at the moment...
Hey, I am quite bored so until i figure out what to do i thought hey i might as well see if i can find some new music. I'm a fan of almost everything, the exceptions being gangster rap and country. Feel free to post all music though, others may enjoy them.
Thanks a lot, would you happen to know of any groups similar to MGMT (time to pretend and kids) or The Cranberries (Zombie)
