MC Solaar has some great stuff. I'd suggest "La Belle et la Bad Boy" as a start.

A couple that are heavy rotation on the ipod:
Mattafix - signs of a struggle-
bass heavy hiphoppy pop stuff from west london, not my usual cup of tea, but sounds pretty good walking around the gritty mean streets of munich(

)
Richard Hawley - Coles Corner -
Another weird one, imagine Elvis imitating Morrisey, definately a bit radio 2, yet at the same time really rather lovely.
rilo kiley-more adventurous-
A kind of Sundays/ Mazzy Star kind of vibe, but with a bit more sunshine thrown in. Soundtrack to a summer road trip, amazing lyrics, a real grower.

an absolute tour de force for mary j ...full-on soul, bangin' on about her fella doing this and the ladeez doing that and even a guest appearance from jay-z
...getting re-played a lot on me ipod like:

I purchased my first ever CD on the recommendations of TT members in this thread; Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary.
You should have warned me.

After the first playing (I got as far as Track 7), this was a definite, "What the fuck have I wasted my money on here?" and wasn't even going to get a slot in my CD collection. It entered the small pile of,
To sort into 'chuck or sell', in which I discovered a Ronan Keating CD. I have interrogated both Madame Sin and Sinette and they deny all knowledge. I have asked a couple of ex-lodgers and they claim innocence. So, it could only have been the CIA, who must have snuck in one night and planted it in my collection to discredit me. I know it can't have been Mossad, because they would have destroyed me outright with a 'Best of Queen' CD.
Then, the Wolf Parade CD had a turn of fortune. For some unfathomable reason, I decided on a reprieve, and because it was on the top of the
Extras pile, it got loaded into the Walkman for a second hearing on the U-Bahn.
The second time was much better. I was getting used to that weird voice... very Verlaine/Hell delivery. After the third listen it entered the collection.

I must say Sin, I wonder what kind of music to you spend your time listening to. For me, this album had the distinct "Oh, this is nice, I think I've heard it before" feeling of music that belongs to the off-stream's mainstream. Not to say I didn't like it, just that it fits in with a lot of other things I've been listening lately, at least unconciously (fitting in, that is, not listening).
Animal Collective comes to mind.

...is there something wrong with becoming popular? you can't just stop liking someone cos all of a sudden everyone else does. I say kanye's still on top of his game quality-wise.
I dont think I could put together a top 50 albums of last year. maybe albums of all time or singles of the year, but I havent listened to enough full albums to make that list yet.
my current recomendation is anything by The Animals. not new music or anything, but absolutely necessary.

Cowboys in ScandiaviaWell I'm not sure what you can call Scandinavian Country and Western. Country
and Northern?Anyway, there are some beautiful songs on this, possibly not a wise choice for those not in the best of moods (
Christer Knutsen's "Watching You Steal My Pain" is probably the specific song to be avoided in fact). There is more to Scanda-Folk than just the Cardigans last 2 CDs. Well worth a listen.
Tortoise & Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Brave & The Bold
I haven't entirely made up my mind on this but the cover of Springsteen's "Thunder Road" was worth the cash alone.
Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
It's grate this is. Pitchfork says it is a "pop cathedral" and they are not wrong. Like Moffat Toffee, sweet and sour at the same time (plus entirely addictive).
