class of 1991-1994, your grunge-themed prom has arrived.
but speaking of which - whoever showem's partners were at the quiz seemed to have some pretty good taste. they should post some reccomendations.
Just had 3 fantastic cds arrive yesterday myself.
Soul Revolution by
Cornerstone RootsHome, Land and Sea by
Trinity Roots and the best one is
Future Far I by Phantom Power.
A few new(ish) bands whose debut albums I REALLY REALLY recommend:
Kings of Leon - Youth and Young Manhood
For a debut album it totally rocks! They are a bunch of bearded southern lads from the US. If you like Creedence Clearwater, The Black Crowes, Rolling Stones - you will absolutely love them.
The Zutons - Who killed The Zutons
From Liverpool The Zutons style is hard to describe. Kinda like The Coral but really original. The tunes are pretty manic and full of energy. Also some nicer slow ones like Confusion. Excellent first album.
The Stands - All Years Leaving
Another Liverpudlian group of lads, whose music is a modern day version of The Beatles with some Dylan, Byrds and a bit of The Coral thrown in too. Its pretty accoustic in sound, lots of nice guitar riffs. "Outside your door" is wicked. Thoroughly recommended if you are a Beatle nut. They have supported Oasis and the Coral in the past.
Snow Patrol - Final Straw
Group of very cool Glaswegian lads who have firmly made their mark on the UK Indie Rock scene. "Run" I heard once and was completely captivated by it, it really tugs at the old heart strings - you never tire of playing it over and over again. The lyrics on the album are intelligent and well written - most will be able to relate to them.

You know I hate to correct you darling but Snow Patrol were all born in Belfast - they merely live in Glasgow.

Went back to England on the weekend and picked up the following new albums which I recommend
Maroon 5 - Songs about Jane (similar style to Snow Patrol)
Nattasha Bedingfield - Unwritten (sister of Daniel)

Maroon 5 is a decent band (very popular in US and Canada) and they're coming to Munich really soon...within the next few weeks I think.

A few new(ish) bands whose debut albums I REALLY REALLY recommend:
Final Straw is excellent but it is Snow Patrols 3rd album. Debut album was in 1997 called "Songs for Polar Bears" followed in 2001 by "When it's all over we still have to clear up".
Anal bloke logging off.

A few years back I had 100+ CD's stolen when my house got burgled*.

I made the decision at the time not to go out and buy the same albums over again as I wanted my music collection to keep expanding. I just add some of the old ones when I find them on special offers and such.
*The reason I didnt use the insurance money to replace them...I wasnt insured!
Also sods law that a couple of nights before this happened, I sorted my albums out, put all my favourites in to my rack and all my cheezy pop in a pile. So when Billy Burglar came along, he just picked up my rack and left me with the cheese!! Kind of explains my tastes today I suppose.
So
Just bought
Bon Jovi - Keep the Faith. One of their best tracks ever IMO is
'Dry County' - 9.53, great song!!

@ Johnny English - yeah I knew that. Stupid of me to group them all together - wasnt thinking straight.
@ 3 Lions - I lurrrve Bon Jovi - Jon was my heart throb for years - havent listened to them for a while but got all there old albums.
The Perceptionists. They kick arse. Nice political rap from the
Definitive Jux label (thats
rjd2s label). They remind me a little bit of
non phixion actually.
Anyway they got 2 songs out (but apparently you can legally download them from the labels site, I just cant find out where yet)
Memorial Day and Medical Aid (available on the
DJX Presents III album, I dont own it yet, but I have it on order)
They will have a mix tape out soon, and an album shortly thereafter.

Just saw an REM video on MTV last night. Note to self: dig REM back out of the collection.

I've got the new REM album playing right now in fact, it is more mellow and very introspective so suits my mood. I like it.
What I have been listening to a lot at the moment are those free CDs that you get sometimes with the
British "newspaper" Daily (Hate) Mail. This week's selection ("Saturday Night Sunday Morning") had some great old tracks on it such as "Handbags and Gladrags" from Rod Stewart and the truly glorious "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" from Soft Cell.
It has been hard not to sing along out loud on the U-Bahn this week

This weekend brings a Bridget Jones Soundtrack.

Just heard "Wonderful Night" off Fatboy Slim's Palookaville. Wow. Instant new favourite song for the month.
Juliette & The Licks - American Boy
The CD is just being released in California on Fiddler Records, entitled "Like A Bolt Of Lightning" I managed to d/l American Boy as an MP3 and got 30 second clips of two of the other songs from their management's website.
Best thing I have heard in years!

@Sin
Juliette and the licks are great!
The singer is Juliette Lewis know from films like "Gilbert Grape" "Natural Born Killers" and "Kalifornia"
She's got lots of attitude.
I am just now listening to the live cd from Evanesence... It's quite good.
Other than that I like all kinds of quality music but I tend to listen to guitar based rock. Beatles, Zeppelin, Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd, Stereophonics etc...

Here's my chance to pwn all 3 pinned topics...
Universal Audio - Delgados - good album;
Everybody Come Down is a great road-trip bubblepop song; and I like pop.
Morning Star - Flunk - more pop than the 1st, but good; and err, I like pop. Guess they call this 'folktronic'.
Live at the Temple Bar - Various - house, urban, soul, hip-hop. Prolly hard to find over here; self-produced house label from the fantastic
Temple Bar in Santa Monica, CA (if yer in the nachbarschaft - check the place out).

I have heared a song on BBC radio 1 while am in England called Somebody told me by the killers -
Listen here on their web site (
www.thekillers.co.uk) heared it a couple of times now and really like it. Due for release in England mid Jan (debue single for band). lyrics are a bit strange though!
Already ordered the album as that also is getting excellent reviews

Streaming on the internet we've had
Radio Wazee (or from Winamp) playing in the office for the past six months. They call themselves a modern alternative rock station - just about right. No chat, no BS, just various non-mainstream rock tracks.
Some highlights:
Caviar - Tangerine speedo
Goo Goo Dolls - Give A Little Bit
The Crimea - Lottery winners on acid
PP
Sounds a lot like what you'd hear on
Radio Paradise. That's my favorite internet station. Also no blah blah and no commericials. Latest excerpt from the playlist:
5:41 am - Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Mondo Bongo
5:37 am - Leon Russell - Out In The Woods
5:33 am - Ellen Reid - Send Me Home
5:29 am - Hevia - Busindre Reel
5:25 am - Leo Kottke - World Turning
5:21 am - Los Lobos - Peace
5:16 am - The Church - Ripple
They call it eclectic rock
Then again, just listening to Wazee, and they're playing Megadeath. Not my thing, and much too loud for work. Radio Paradise is much more mellow.
My all time favourite albums:
Radiohead - Ok computer and The Bends
Granddaddy - The sophtware slump
Tom Mcrae - Just like blood
and a mixture of Coldplay, Mercury Rev, Sigur Ros, Spiritualized, The Waterboys, Lambchop, The Handsome Family, The Flaming Lips, Snow Patrol, Damien Rice, Portishead, Lamb etcetcetc... (basically anything depressing)
currently loving The Killers - Hot Fuss
favourite music of all right now though is Fabric 19 - Andrew Weatherall - speaker destroying electrotech with balls of steel!
My faves at the mo are:
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Razorlight - Up all Night
Snow Patrol- Final Straw
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Scissor Sistors - Scissor Sisters

Def. love The Killers - Hot Fuss, would like to go but won't be in town.
Also
Hot Action Cop
All American Rejects - Too Far Gone
Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams
The Killers - Mr. Brightside
I'm also really liking 'Country Falls' by Husky Rescue at the moment. It's very very nice 'chill' type music out of Finland, with lots of breathy vocals and really melancholy slide guitar. Very popular in England at the moment as this years 'dinner party album' a la Moon Safari/ Dummy/ Big Calm etc.
@acockerel - cool! It's gonna be a blinder!

Love to play
Leftfield- have a couple of albums Leftism and Rhythm and Stealth. You might know Phat Planet from the Guiness advert. And the music always seem to "fit" for different moods.
One of my favourites too is Goldfrapps Felt Mountain - very good for romantic evenings...it's different!
And I love to chill: Kruder and Dorfmeister the K&D Sessions is a real cool CD.
Lots more but they are my real top 3.
