I currently have an old paper UK license and want to get a German one as I now live in Hamburg.

Is there a German "DVLA" website or has anybody done this?

This question is asked very often here and maybe you can find the answer here somewhere:

Used Bed for Sale... (only used 7 months)

As far as I'm aware there is still no postal or online method to get you DL coverted in Germany. Like most things here it has to be done by personal visit so you'll need to find the Stassenverkehrsamt in your area and traipsie along there, with your Brit. DL, Passport, Aufenthaltserlaubnis (if they've insisted on giving you one) and at least 10 Euros - it probably costs a lot more now. Don't quote me on this but since the EU standard licence its possible that you won't need a certified translation. At the end of the process you'll probably need to be certified.

Wouldn't it be easier just to replace the licence at the UK DVLA as it is free
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/faq/faq_replacement_licences.htm

Or it is not possible without a UK address?

I would have preferred to have kept my British license but moved out of the EU (to Switzerland) for a couple of years so was obliged to get a Swiss licence. Then when I moved to Germany had to exchange it to a German (EU) license. huh.gif
This I did (5 years ago) by going in person to the appropriate Frankfurt Ordnungsamt

Thanks all. Some useful tips there. Will try and get some kind of new one instead of the manky old paper one I've got.

Cheers,

M
