Underground music scene in Germany

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if cities like Köln and Hamburg (besides Berlin, of course :$ ) have a strong undergound rock scene? I mean, live shows, music festivals, etc...I'm a musician and will move to Germany next year...as there are many german rock bands around (particularly metal and gothic bands), I wonder where most of them come from...

Not sure about live music but for the Gothic Scene/clubs you could look at the International Club Listing at www.vamp.org/Gothic/clublist.html. There are also sites like www.gothaix.de if you know german and they might have more information on the live music scene.

Something I have noticed about the "gothic" scene here is that it is not very open. People tend to go out with friends and not talk to anyone else. Then again I was spoilt in england, living near London and going to a club called Slimelight.
