Friendly German Officials

Returned home (yes, here is home) from England last Wednesday night and discovered I'd left my passport on the seat of the plane. I thought the German customs officer would have me shot at dawn but he was so helpful (as was the crew and captain of the German Wings flight who also came through passport control). After much phoning and walky talkying my passport was returned - never a cross word despite it being 11.30pm and end of shift (they wouldn't even accept a packet of Cadbury's biccys as a reward - bless) biggrin.gif

I can confirm that too. The people at the airport seem to be alot friendlier than the rest. When I go back home, I always get my passport stamped ( Just for fun - gotta use the passport for something ) The germans always stick a stamp in with pride. The brits won't even stamp it - miserable gits !!

They do love to stamp things - I think it is brilliant. The best is when they use a computer to fill out a form, and then have to print it out and stamp it - otherwise it is not official.

Unemployment would be at least 1-2% higher if they got rid of all the people responsible for stamping things and re-entering data in forms.

I just collect stamps in my passport for the fun of it.

We came back from England and my bf asked the guy who checked passport, if he could get a stamp like the non EU ppl do in their passport, cuz he has none yet since he never left EU yet. They laughed and gave him one. So he does this everytime now and all of them were very friendly yet (kinda proud prolly to be the "stampmasters" biggrin.gif

When we got married, my birth certificate had to be proved to be authentic. I had to have the British Authorities prove (with a stamp) that the signature was genuine... rolleyes.gif
