Hello

I know this has probably been done a million times before BUT can any Frankfurt dwellers please give me their digibox recommendations (make and model) for receiving (free) UK TV? Are they all much of a muchness or are there some that must be avoided at all costs?

Thanks
J

I really don't think it matters. But I have had no problems with my Pace boxes.

Any brand will do.

Sky branded Dodgyboxes have the added advantage of Red Button Interactive services and digital Teletext.
Non Sky boxes are however cheaper.

The important thing is dish size.

min 60cm, at best 80cm

Bob

Thanks for the replies. Am I being a ditz? :$ I thought that some boxes would work better depending on location - am I mistaken? In which case, any old recommendation will do, wherever you happen to be. smile.gif As you've probably worked out, I need something easy to use...

nope, you are not mistaken Jac. It is just that the location of Frankfurt appears to be one of those areas where the brand of [Sky] box is not important.

I've had two pace boxes and they both worked fine. If you have a choice I would stick with a better name, but I wouldn't spend alot extra for it.

I should add if you looking at buying a new box for sure spend the extra and go to Sky Plus, it doesn't cost any more per month but is totally addictive! It is way better than they advertise. Unless you tape every football game out there 20 hours should do you fine!

I have a SONY and a Panny.
On the SONY I can get all of the channels.
On the Panny, I cant get BBC1 West, ITV2,3 and 4.
Both are connected up to the same LNB, so the make must make a difference.
Up to now I thought that the panny was the best box to get, but the SONY is in my case obviously better...

Got mine from EBay 200+ quid. Panasonic. Works great, and came with a FTV card thrown in... Nice.

Check if the Panny is in RGB output mode.. if it is, switch it po PAL..

This helps on some of the weaker channels, or to test if its the Tuner pushing out 15khz try disconnecting the LNB and re-connecting,with out powering off the box.. But put it on to ITV first...

Box was already set to PAL
disconnecting and re-connecting the LNB ( Whilst on ITV seemed to do the trick ... )

OK, so your Panny is sick an needs surgery...

If you put an Osciloscope on the LNB input, you can see the Generated interference...

Good luck.
