Ski destinations by train from Frankfurt

I've got a friend coming over from Scotland to Frankfurt fot a while. She also fancies going ski-ing somewhere for a few days. Does anyone know of anywhere in Switzerland/Germany/France that is relatively accessible by train from Frankfurt and pretty good for ski-ing?

Please give generously, as she's quite cute

Arosa in Switzerland, journey time 7 hours

ICE from FFT to Zurich
Regionalbahn from Zurich to Chur
Funky mountain railway from Chur to Arosa village (station is less than 100metres from main ski lift)

Zell am See, Austria, journey time 7 1/2 hours (4 trains)

Kitzbühel, Austria, journey time 6 1/2 hours (4 trains)

Use Bergfex to pick a ski resort, then bahn.de to see how long it takes to get there by train.

Someone has mentioned Garmisch_Pantykitchen to me which appears to be about 5 hours away from Frankfurt... anyone been there before? Any good?

I went to Garmisch the weekend before last. There are a mixture of intermediate runs, and it's good for beginners too. If you are really daring and a brilliant skiier you can try the Kandahar run but it was closed when we were there for the World Cup. We skied the Hausberg mountain, there are about 18 different routes of different levels. Garmisch gets pretty busy especially at the weekend and the prices on the slopes for food are pretty steep. A one day lift pass costs 29.50 per day, if you want to ski the Zugspitze it is 36.00 for a day. There are tons of ski rental and lesson places right by the lift. they do lessons in English too. The ski areas close at 4.30pm so it is feasible to go for a day trip. The lifts open at 8.30 am.
There is a bus to the ski areas from the station which will take you within a 3 minute walk to the lifts.

Lotsof snowboarders there too plus lessons if you want them.

My God is that cheap!

The play I usually go in the US is $50, in Canada $70 (OK, that's Canadian $, but still).

I went to SkiWelt "Wilder Kaiser - Brixental" (near/part of Kitzbühel) a couple of weekends ago, we actually drove down but I am told there are good train connections (I can't remember the name of the station, but I am sure it is only a google away).

To be honest, wouldn't it be easier, and probably cheaper to rent a car and drive down? Weekend hires from Sixt are something like 90 euros for a C Class Merc or 3er BMW with unlimited kms.

We nailed it down to Westendorf in about 6 hours with a bit of traffic, a few smoke breaks and a McD refill included!

If she's only "quite" cute try your nearest dry ski slope

Nicole, did you not forget the price for getting up to the Zugspitze? I remember it was about over 40 Euros per Person only to go up without skiing? Might be wrong though...it's been a few years ago :$
Apart from this...Garmisch area is very nice. Berchtesgaden also.

I took the price from the brochure/map I was given at the lift pass office just two weeks ago. A one day pass for the Zugspitze is €36 for Adults, €25.50 for youth and €21.50 for kids. Same price for one round trip on the cogwheel train, Gletscher cable car and Eibsee Cable car for non skiers.
Maybe they made it cheaper to get more customers. We only skied the Hausberg but the price in the brochure corresponds with what we were charged so i'm pretty sure it is the right price.
