Hi all, we're planning a 4-day "Sun/Sand" getaway. Where would you go for a few days to soak up the rays and do nothing but relax? Do you know any hidden treasures??

- Should be within a 5-hour flight;
- Plenty of sun - we're going in March;
- Not overly commerical, no massive 300 room hotels either;
- The higher the stars the better!!

willy lass, I`ve been studing me atlas and searching the web, since 1 hour.
How about... somewhere with snow...

wait wait I know its not what you had in mind, but you will not get a better tan, as up in those hills (when the sun is shining of course!)
there are even lovely top job hotels, stuck away in those hills. A bit of wellness and Beauty treatment (not that you need it, just get that eye patch removed) and not a sound of civilization for miles.
the hills are alive with the sound of music...
sorry about that.
let hear what you think!
willy
You're the best Jay! Thanks a lot ... for your interest in getting me all relaxed! Wink, wink!! On second thoughts, "a relaxed willy", well ... umm, maybe not that good of a thing!!!

SNOW No!!! wacko.gif

I come from the GREAT WHITE NORTH and let'me tell ya lad, I've had my fair share of the white stuff!!

What I need is sand (between my toes), coconut milk, sun/sunsets, warm water ... tropical fish!!! I need to find me own pirate ship, per se!
Tommy
For Sun cool.gif and Sea Greece in March meets your requirements but take birth control :excl:

Malta might be okay, but you would want to go late march if you want good sun, and the sea temperature anywhere in the med is a bit too cold for swimming at that time of year. Interesting place to visit too, and if you get a choice, Gozo is much nicer than Malta itself. Av temp for March is 11-16 degrees.

The hottest weather within 5 or so hours would be the Canary islands, but again, march is not a time of year for sea swimming. March temps between 15-22 degrees.

Depending on how brave you are, Turkey is a possibility, but again, not the best time of year. Av temps are only 3-11 Deg for Istanbul & 6-17 Deg for Izmir.

Majorca would be okay - as long as you stay away from Magaluf and Arenal (both complete dumps) - its about 8-17 degs there in March. Good cheap flights too.

I think Tunisia might offer what you are after, but having never been I can't really say anything about it. Temps 8-18 in March.

Failing all of these, you could try Southern spain or portugal, but march is the wettest time of year for them both.

Have fun!
willy
Thanks for your great tips MarkJC, I'll check them out! Although, maybe I'll avoid going to any Muslim countries - for the moment. Hmm, but ... diving in the Red Sea in March would be ideal ... smile.gif

Anyone know any hidden treasures in the Canary Islands?
yebo
Check out the Canary islands-I see Tschibo is offering cheap 3/4 day packages.

I've been to Tunisia, the country is OK, the people are another matter. You get hassled a lot by kids trying to drag you into their uncle's carpet shop, or generally trying to rip you off. If you're white, female and scantily clad you will get a lot of unwanted attention from the local men (fortunately, they left me alone though), so if that sort of thing makes you feel uncomfortable then I'd advise against Tunisia.

How about Brazil? Sure, the flights a little longer, but if you want hot weather, white sand and warm seas at this time of year you're either going to have to go to the southern hemisphere or somewhere near the equator.
willy
Hmm, thanks for the heads up on Tunisia ... "no carpets, or marriage proposals wanted", thank you very much!

Brazil would be beautiful, however, we only have 4 days ... sleep.gif

A lot of germans go to " Balkonien" , must be a great place though !!

Don't go to Tunisia, it's a Rathole. You can't go anywhere without the locals ' feeling you up' ( So if you're into that it may not be so bad!!) I had to smack one bloke in the head in a market in Monastir because he groped my arse, my dad was there too though he wasn't worried about defending my honour, he wanted to get out of there before he got his mates and we disappeared forever (Thanks Dad!!) If you are blonde you are even more prone to stares and they try and touch your hair, creepy.
Technically Tunisia is a predominantly Christian country but it's not on my list of places to revisit.

Greece in March, the weather still isn't reliably hot. Low 60's but better than here. To get guaranteed sun you have to go South or to Florida and it doesn't sound like you have time for that. I'd take a city break, New York even

Try the Canary Islands. Tenerife is my favourite but there are a lot of Brits there.

Or the Algarve. Bit like Spain but cleaner...

Nicole. Sorry you had a bad experience in Tunisia, I´ve been a couple of times and not had any problems at least no more than Turkey or Egypt,no one touched my blonde hair though that happened in Turkey years ago, maybe i´m a bit too old now. The weather in March may not be very good, the last time I was there in early spring it was cold and rained at the major resorts, though it was hot and sunny on the island of Djerba.
I don´t know where you got the fact that the country is predominately Christian, it´s main religion is Islam.

Its a 4 hour flight, and weather in March should be between 15-20deg. Sea is just about warm enough to swim in that time of year. Eating out in the evening is fantastic and very cheap too.Oh and the Cypriots are really friendly.

are you willy, or just connected to willy, testicles maybe laugh.gif

Greece is great round March/April time, nice and quiet - but weather is very unpredictable. On the plus side you get good wind and most of the storms tend to occur in the evenings when it's normally to nippy to sit outside the old taverna anyway.

Here I am!! smile.gif

As it looks, Sicily is top on our list, esp. the area of Taormina. A friend who's travelled the world over, said it's one of the most (!!) romantic spots on earth!
Umm, having that said ... SOLD/DONE DEAL/I'M IN, we're going!!!

Just surfing the net, and seeing what's there. Looking for something intimate, secluded, cool boutique-esque ... wink.gif

Anyone been?

We need a getaway NOW! Only no flying and should be only a 3-5 hour drive from Munich. Oh, it has to be warm, on the water and and not raining. I am looking for specific places to contact.
